5.2 PROCOMM PLUS
PROCOMM Plus is a prorietary communication software tool, similar to Windows
HyperTerminal, that is often used by support engineers, or its customers.
5.2.1 Installing PROCOMM PLUS
Install the PROCOMM PLUS software in a proper computer. Follow directions in the
PROCOMM PLUS installation guide for PROCOMM installation. (Hewlett-Packard
recommends installing PROCOMM on a laptop to provide mobility.)
5.2.2 Setting Up PROCOMM PLUS
1. From the menu bar of the initial screen, select Setup.
2. On the pulldown menu, select Setup.
3. The Setup dialog box will appear. Select the ‘Data’ tab and the Data dialog box
appears (see Figure 5-9).
4. At left of dialog box, select the ‘Transfer Protocol’ button. Set Xmodem protocol.
5. Next, select the ‘Data Connection’ button. Set modem baud rate to 57600.
6. Then, select the ‘Terminal Options’ button and select ‘Incoming CR to CR/LF’ and
Tab stops every 4 positions’.
7. Select other check-boxes as shown in Figure 5-9, if appropriate.
8. Click ‘OK’.
9. Connect the computer serial port to the SCSI-FC Router RJ-11 serial port.

5.2.3 Enabling the Serial Port with PROCOMM PLUS
Refer to the PROCOMM PLUS manual to activate the PROCOMM software.
1. After PROCOMM PLUS is activated, the PROCOMM PLUS for Windows
Terminal will appear (see Figure 5-10).
2. At the cursor, type hello and press enter.
Note: When typing hello, it will not be visible on the screen. It should also be in
lower-case letters only, so ensure that the ‘Caps Lock’ key is not pressed.
3. If the screen reads ‘serial port is enabled’ then startup was successful.
