2.2.2 SCSI ID Settings (SW1)
Switch One (SW1) on the router is used to assign a SCSI ID/LUN pair to each attached device on
the SCSI bus for host addressing purposes. There are a maximum of 16 SCSI ID’s for each SCSI
bus and there are 8 SCSI LUN’s associated with each SCSI ID. It is recommended that no other
device share the same SCSI bus with the SCSI-FC Router and the host server. Also, storage
devices must be configured so that only one device responds to any given SCSI ID on the
SCSI bus.
SCSI IDs are selected using the eight switches of SW1 (these switches are illustrated in Figure 2-6).
Two ID numbers are associated with each switch, except for Switch 3 (which selects/deselects ID 6).
There is no ID switch for SCSI ID 7, as this is normally reserved for the host or SCSI-FC Router. The
router is shipped from the factory to recognize all IDs except 7.
Depending on the number of storage devices proposed for being connected to the host, then the
corresponding number of SCSI IDs should be made available, so that the host will be able to see all
of the drives. Given that there are 15 available IDs (discounting 7), and 8 LUNs, then the total
number of drives is limited to 120.

When a switch is toggled, both ID numbers are selected (or deselected). None of the ID numbers
(except 6) can be independently enabled.
§ If the switch is down, the SCSI-FC Router will be able to assign a SCSI ID/LUN associated
with that switch to a device on the FC loop.
§ If the switch is up, the SCSI-FC Router will not assign the SCSI ID/LUN associated with that
switch to a device on the FC loop.
§ The SCSI-FC Router’s power must be cycled for a change in SCSI ID’s to take effect.
