Battery and AC/DC safety information
Lithium-Polymer (Li-Po) battery
• The Li-Po battery is designed for maximum safety.
In particular, each cell is provided with a safety valve to prevent excessive internal pres-
sure in the event of overcharging or exposure to very high temperatures.
General precautions
• Do not use any mains adaptor or battery other than those supplied with the unit,
or supplied by VIAVI as an option for this unit.
If another adapter or battery is used, it may damage the SmartOTDR itself.
Using the SmartOTDR with a battery other than the one supplied by the manufac-
turer of the SmartOTDR may entail risks of fire or explosion.
The battery may explode, leak or catch fire:
– if it is exposed to high temperature or fire
– if it is opened or dismantled.
• If you do not intend to use the unit for several weeks, it is advisable to remove the
battery in order to prolong its useful life, and to recharge it fully before using it
again.
• In case of communication problems with the battery, informed to the user, the
battery charging information is no more actualized.
Restart the equipment to restore the communication with battery.
Other basic safety precautions are as follows:
• Do not use AC/Adapter/Charger outdoors or in wet or damp locations
• Connect the AC/Adapter/Charger to the correct mains voltage, as indicated on
the ratings label.
• Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord, and do not locate the product
where people can walk on the power cord.
• Avoid using this product during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of
electric chock from lightning.
• Do not use this product in the vicinity of a gas leak or in any explosive environ-
ment.
