Interpreting alarms
Troubleshooting Solution
Nothing happens when the
ON/OFF
key is pressed.
- Make sure that the battery is present or charged;
or the mains adapter is properly connected (see
“Connecting the mains adapter” on page 13).
Not
hing happens on screen, what-
ever is the action done (menu key /
hard key pressed...)
- The Platform must be rebooted.
See “Built-in kickstand” on page 16.
Not
hing happens on touchscreen,
whatever is key pressed (icon,
menu key...)
- Perform an Autotune. See “Touchscreen calibra-
t
ion («Autotune» process for capacitive touch-
screen)” on page 128).
Y
ou are using the SmartOTDR in
the ordinary way when it suddenly
switches off.
- Check the instrument is not configured to Auto off.
See “Defining the Automatic shutdown and the stor-
age
limit” on page 22).
- Che
ck the battery charge level.
See “Charging the battery” on page 13.
The bat
tery refuses to charge (the
Charge indicator does not go on
when the instrument is connected to
the mains and is not operating).
- There is no battery in the instrument.
- The temperature level of the equipment does not
allow the battery charging for safety reasons. Wait
the equipment cools down.
- The battery needs to be changed.

Error messag
e when USB has been
disconnected
- The USB disconnection has not been done prop-
erly (see “USB memory stick disconnection” on
pag
e 92)

The data transfer was not completed when USB
key was disconnected.
No beep is emitted when the USB
memory stick is connected
- A previous USB memory stick has not been prop-
erly disconnected (see “USB memory stick discon-
nec
tion” on page 92).

The USB memory stick is not detected by the
SmartOTDR: use another memory stick, or another
storage media.
