Installation:
Only install the platform system on concrete or other improved surface capable of supporting the weight of the
system plus a full capacity load. Anchor the platform system to the ground/floor after it is assembled. Each leg
includes a bolt hole through its foot for
5
/
8
” anchor bolts (diameter). Additionally, each foot of a stairway leg has 2
holes for
3
/
8
” anchor bolts. The necessary length of anchoring hardware should be determined by your building
engineer.
Inspections and Maintenance:
After assembling and anchoring the system, create a written record that describes the appearance of each part.
Including photographs in the record is strongly encouraged. Pay particular attention to fasteners (bolts, washer, and
nuts) and bolt holes. This written record establishes “normal condition”. When conducting future inspections compare
observations with the written record to determine whether a component is in normal condition or requires repair or
replacement. If issues are discovered during an inspection, restore the unit to normal condition before returning it to
service.
At least once per month inspect the following:
1. Legs: examine each leg for bends, breaks, cracked welds, and severe wear or corrosion. Legs should be square
and rigid.
2. Handrails: inspect each section of handrail as well as the corresponding handrail brackets. Confirm that all welds
are intact and in good condition (e.g. not corroded). Handrails should not be bent, dented, etc. All brackets must be
securely fastened to the platform. Check each bracket for bends, breaks, and warps. Replace all damaged
brackets.
3. Stairways and stair rails (refer to diagrams on p. 6): examine the stairways. Inspect each rung for bends, twists,
and breaks (partial and complete). Inspect welds between rungs and side rails. All welds must be intact and in
normal condition. Closely examine the stair rails and couplers. Make sure that all stair rail tubes are straight and
undamaged—no bends, breaks, punctures, etc. Couplers should be firmly connected to adjacent rail tubes.
4. Hardware/Fasteners: make sure that all bolts, washers, and nuts are in normal condition and tightly fastened
together. Tighten all loose connections. Make sure that bolts holes are not elongated.
5. Labels: confirm that all labels are in good condition and in place as shown in the “Labeling Diagram” on p. 6.
Replace all labels that are missing, damaged, or not easily readable from a safe viewing distance.
Clean all surfaces at least once per month. Remove rust with steel wool or a metal bristle brush, clean the areas to
remove rust particles, and apply touchup paint to the affected areas.
