Chapter 1: Basic System Features
SBX IP Programming & Operations Guide
Message Wait Indication (MWI) - SLT Feature
If an SLT station receives a message from another user, the SLT LED flashes.
CONDITIONS
• When lifting the handset, the user will hear a DND warning tone that indicates a message
is waiting.
• When a message waiting indication prompt is recorded for system greeting 097, a voice
announcement is played instead of the DND warning tone.
• Also see:
- "Message Wait and Call Back" on page 1-64.

Messages (Customized Display Text)
A user can select and/or create a message on their display that will appear on the display of
any other station (within the system) that calls the user’s station. These messages will alert the
caller as to the user’s status.
There are three categories of messages available to the user of any station within the system:
• Default Pre-Selected (Pre-Programmed) Messages (options 01-10) - see next page
These are messages that are already included in the system as it arrives to a site from
Vertical. They are available to all stations within the system. Some of the existing
messages require not only selection, but may require further input such as a time and/or
date, alternate phone number, etc.
• Customizable, Pre-Selected Messages (Options 11-20 - see 1-70)
These messages are those that the System Attendant can create and change as needed
(using the Character Entry Chart shown on page D-50). Like the default messages, they
are available to all stations within the system.
• Customized Station Messages (Option 00 - see 1-70)
These are messages that can be created by the user of each station (using the Character
Entry Chart shown on page D-50). Any message created by a station user is only
available on that specific station. Station messages are NOT available system-wide as the
other two message categories are.
