VINYL RAILING NOTE: Closely follow post manufacturer's installation instructions or use a Post Jacket on an existing wood 4x4. Fig. 1 1 2 Assembling rail section: Lock tabs on balusters/spindles must face outer edge of routed holes in rails. Assemble your rail section by snapping balusters/spindles in rails (Fig.1). Locking Tab a. One support brace is included with 6' railing kits. Measure equal distance from both ends of railing and install support brace in center of bottom rail.
6 7 Slide rail section in-between posts and on top of temporary spacer blocks (position spacer blocks next to installed vinyl posts) (Fig. 6). Fig. 6 For Top Brackets: Fig. 7 a. Center rail on post. Then, using a 5⁄32" drill bit, predrill the first hole on an angle though the top rail bracket, vinyl post jacket, and into wood post (or plastic spacer of post install kit) (Fig. 7). b. Install the #10 x 21⁄2"square drive screws (Fig. 8).
8 Top Bracket Covers: Fig. 10 a. Ensure the railing is centered between both posts and tighten the set screws put into the metal brackets from Step 4. b. From under the top rail, snap the bracket cover over the rail. Adjust the bracket cover to be flush against the post (so the holes in the molded bracket cover line up with the holes in the metal bracket) (Fig. 10). c. While holding the bracket cover flush against the post, pre-drill using a 5⁄32" drill bit though the two holes underneath.
11 Install Decorative Rail Cover Connectors: Fig. 14 a. At about 1⁄2" from each post, place decorative rail cover connector, centered on rail (Fig. 14). b. Use a 1⁄8" drill bit to drill through the top rail on each side of connector. c. Drive #8 x 1" screws through holes to connect the connectors to the top rail (two per connector) (Fig. 15). d. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry out center tab of connector (Fig. 15). e. Repeat for connector on opposite side of adjacent post. #8 x 1" Screws Fig.
