1 Determine gate size prior to installing gate posts. Preplanning prevents cutting boards (for privacy panels) and ensures that the pickets are spaced evenly and accept hardware correctly. The hinge swings 90° so remember to plan the gate directional swing. The hinge mounts to the large strap and therefore the hinge and the large strap will face the direction of the gate swing (Fig. 1). Fig. 1 Hinge Gate should not exceed 5'.
3 Cut the panel rails (sold separately) square so that the picket to end of rail are even or symmetrical on both sides of the gate. Take into account the installation of the hardware prior to cutting (Fig. 4). Fig. 4 Panel Cut 4 Determine the length and placement of the gate uprights. See chart below for details: 5 Insert support arms of C-bracket assembly into top and bottom rails of the panel on both sides (Fig. 6). Fig.
8 9 10 Begin aligning the straps. The large strap is used for the hinge side. Align the top and bottom holes and top edge of the large strap to the two holes on the C-bracket. Pre-drill with a 3⁄32" bit then secure with 2 of the #8 x 3⁄4" screws. Repeat step for each corner (Fig. 9). Fig. 9 C-bracket Large Strap Align, mark and pre-drill the 3 remaining holes on the large strap with a 3⁄32" drill bit. Be sure to go through the rail and through the inserted C-bracket from step 5.
12 Attaching the Hinges: a. Attaching the hinges to the inside of the gate will allow the gate to open inward. When the hinges are attached to the outside, the gate will swing outward. The hinges are attached to the large strap side and will face the direction of the gate swing. For a single gate, determine the location to attach the hinge to the post (right or left). b. Align the hinge to the 4 empty holes and attach with four 11⁄2" screws (Fig. 13). c.
13 NOTE: Use 2" blocks to help hold the gate steady (Fig. 17). Fig. 17 Hold the gate level to the post (not included) and mark to pre-drill. Pre-drill holes with 3⁄32" bit and secure with six 11⁄2" screws (Fig. 18). 2" Blocks Fig. 18 14 Using the glue, adhere the upright caps to the top of the gate uprights, and repeat for all gate uprights (Fig. 19). Fig.
15 Install Latch: Latch Fig. 20 a. Hold latch against the side of the post and mark locations of pilot holes, as shown (Fig. 20). b. Drill four 3⁄32" pilot holes into the post. c. Place four 1" screws through the screw holes on the larger, side-surface of the post plate (Fig. 21). d. Place the four spacers onto the screws (on the opposite side of the post plate), so they will be between the post plate and the post when post plate is mounted (Fig. 20). Post Fig. 21 Post Plate e.
