Using the Card Set in Postproduction
You can shoot the white-balance card set in a reference
image and later use it with postproduction software.
This allows you to create a custom profile that will
color correct your photos. This reference should
be taken with all three cards displayed in the photo.
Shooting your images in RAW format will produce files
that are more suitable for postproduction editing.
1. Position and display all three cards (gray, black, and
white) in front of your subject or at the location where
your subject will be photographed with the exact lighting
conditions.
2. Set your cameras exposure as you normally would, and
snap a shot. This is now your reference image to use
later in your postproduction software.
3. Later at your computer, use the reference image
with your software to set up a white-balance profile.
Match the three cards in your reference picture to the
corresponding reference points (eyedroppers A, B and
C) when setting levels. This profile can now be applied to
all remaining photos that were captured in that session.
