INTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing the Vello ShutterBoss. This device is more than just a remote shutter release. It features many timer functions: self-timer, interval timer, long exposure timer, as well as controls for the number of continuous shutter trips. Powered by two AAA batteries, it can take approximately two months of continuous shots with a delay of 5 minutes between exposures and an exposure length of 4´56˝. The LCD screen has a backlit function for low-light conditions.

Do not attempt to disassemble or perform any unauthorized modification. • Do not operate the ShutterBoss in the presence of flammable gas or vapors. • Do not handle with wet hands or immerse in or expose to water or rain. CONNECT TO THE CAMERA POWER/RESET INSTRUCTIONS The ShutterBoss comes in a variety of models that are compatible with different cameras. The only difference in ShutterBoss models is the connector on the end of the cable. Your ShutterBoss and camera may look different from those pictured in this guide. • Press and hold TIMER START/STOP for approximately 3 seconds to power the Shutterboss timer on or off. • Simultaneously press LOCK and TIMER START/STOP to clear the current timer information.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS With the ShutterBoss you can release your camera’s shutter manually or by using the internal timer. Every camera handles remote switches differently. Be sure to follow the instructions on using remote switches in your camera’s manual as well as the steps in this guide. Do not attempt to change any timer settings during exposures or during delay or interval countdowns.
MANUAL RELEASE The ShutterBoss can be used manually even when there are no batteries in the device. The display panel will be off, and no beep will sound. To use the ShutterBoss manually: 1. After connecting the ShutterBoss to your camera, adjust your camera settings. Choose your exposure mode, shutter speed, focus mode, and shooting mode. 2. Press the shutter release button halfway on the ShutterBoss. The camera will focus (if set to Auto Focus). 3.
SELF-TIMER DELAYED RELEASE The self-timer on your camera is limited in the choices you have for setting the delay. With the ShutterBoss you can select a self-timed delay from 1 second to 99 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds in one second increments. 1. After connecting the ShutterBoss to your camera, adjust your camera settings. Choose your exposure mode, shutter speed, focus mode, and shooting mode. Do not set the camera’s self-timer. Cursor 3. TIMED EXPOSURE LENGTH The ShutterBoss can control shutter speeds that are much longer than your camera can. With the ShutterBoss you can select shutter speeds from 1 second to 99 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds in one second increments. The confirmation LED will blink every second during a long exposure. 1. After connecting the ShutterBoss to your camera, adjust your camera settings. Choose your focus mode. Set the exposure mode to B (bulb). 3. Use the arrow button to set the cursor beneath LONG.
TIMED INTERVALS The ShutterBoss allows you to control the amount of time between a series of shots. Choose an interval that is longer than your exposure time, from 1 second to 99 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds. If using a flash, be sure to set an interval that is longer than your flash recycle time. 1. After connecting the ShutterBoss to your camera, adjust your camera settings. Choose your focus mode and set your exposure. 3. Use the arrow button to set the cursor beneath INTV.
NUMBER OF SHOTS The ShutterBoss allows you to control the number of shots taken in a sequence. You can set the ShutterBoss to trigger the camera shutter up to 399 times. Or you c an set it to take shots until you tell it to stop. By default there will be a one second interval between shots (see the previous page). 1. AUDIBLE BEEP The ShutterBoss will give you an audible beep for the last three seconds of a countdown delay or interval. It will also beep to confirm your settings. You can turn off the audible beep. 3. Press the SET button to change the Audible Beep setting. Use the up and down arrows to turn the beep ON or OFF. 4. Press SET again to accept your selection. BACKLIGHT/LOCK BUTTON Press the /Lock button briefly to activate the backlight on the display. The backlight will remain lit for about 6 seconds. Pressing the button again during backlighting will extend the backlighting for another 6 seconds. To lock all the controls, except the shutter release button, press and hold the / Lock button until the icon appears in the display. To unlock, press and hold the Backlight/Lock button until the icon disappears.
ACTIVITY INDICATORS TIMER ACTIVE RELEASE When TIMER ACTIVE is blinking, it means the timer is active. Do not attempt to change any settings while TIMER ACTIVE is blinking. Press Timer Start/Stop if you wish to cancel the timer action. When RELEASE is blinking, it means that the shutter is open. If TIMER ACTIVE is also blinking, the timer has released the shutter. Press Timer Start/Stop if you wish to cancel the timer action. If TIMER ACTIVE is not also blinking, the shutter has been released manually.
CHANGING THE BATTERIES The low battery indicator will blink when battery power is low. To change batteries: 1: Check that the TIMER ACTIVE and RELEASE buttons are not active. SELF LONG INTV No. BEEP 2: Turn off the camera and disconnect the ShutterBoss. 3: Slide open the battery chamber cover on the back of the ShutterBoss. 4: Remove the batteries. 5: Wait for the display to go out and install two fresh 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries.
CARE OF THE SHUTTERBOSS Protect the ShutterBoss Do not drop the ShutterBoss. The device may malfunction if subjected to a strong shock or vibration. Keep Dry The ShutterBoss is not waterproof. Avoid getting the device wet. Do not expose to high humidity. Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes Sudden changes in temperature, such as entering or leaving a warm building on a cold day, can cause damaging condensation inside the device.
