Important Safety Instructions
When using this electrical appliance, basic
precautions should always be observed,
including the following:

IMPORTANT: The manufacturer will not
accept responsibility for damage caused
when the appliance is not used according to
the instructions, or for uses other than those
for which it was intended.
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or
injury:
Before use, always fully extend the
power cord but not beyond the yellow
mark.
WARNING: INJURY COULD OCCUR
IF USED OUTDOORS OR ON WET
SURFACES.
• Do not leave appliance unattended when
plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in
use and before servicing.
• This appliance is not intended for use
by young or infirm persons unless they
have been adequately supervised by a
responsible person to ensure that they can
use the appliance safely.
Young children should be supervised
to ensure that they do not play with the
appliance.
• Use only as described in this manual.
Use only manufacturer’s recommended
attachments.
• Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If
appliance is not working as it should, has
been dropped, damaged, left outdoors,
or dropped into water, return it to your
Authorised Vax Service Agent for service.
• Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as
a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull
cord around sharp edges or corners. Do
not run appliance over cord. Keep cord
away from heated surfaces.
• Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug,
grasp the plug, not the cord.
To prevent a whipping action when
rewinding the power cord, allow cord
to run through palm of hand. Rewind 1-

metres at a time.
• Do not handle plug or appliance with wet
hands.
• Do not put any object into openings. Do not
use with any opening blocked; keep free of
dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce
air flow.
• Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all
parts of body away from openings and
moving parts.
• Do not pick up anything that is burning or
smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or
hot ashes.
• Turn off all controls before unplugging.
• Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
• Do not use to pick up flammable or
combustible liquids such as gasoline or use
in areas where they may be present.
• Do not attempt to service the unit while
appliance is plugged in.
• Do not use vacuum to pick up water or any
liquids or fluids.
WARNING: Always switch off and unplug
the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet
before assembling, emptying the dust bag,
changing or cleaning the filters, connecting/
disconnecting attachments or when the
appliance is not in use.
• Never use your VAX without a dust bag.
• Never alter the specification or modify your
VAX in any way.

Motor Thermostat
IMPORTANT: This unit is equipped with
a motor protective thermostat. If for some
reason the vacuum cleaner should overheat,
the thermostat will automatically turn the unit
off. Should this occur unplug the vacuum
cleaner from the electrical outlet and turn the
unit off. Replace dust bag. Clean the filters.
Allow the cleaner to cool for approximately
one (1) hour. To re-start, plug into an electrical
outlet and switch back on.

AIR OUTLET (HEPA) FILTER -
NON WASHABLE
1. Detach the air outlet grill lock and remove.
(Fig.13)
2. Lift out the HEPA filter cartridge.
3. Clean the pleated HEPA filter by gently
tapping on a hard surface and/or lightly
brush clean and replace.
4. The air outlet HEPA filter is non washable.
It should be changed no later than every
4-6 months, when it appears soiled or if a
loss of suction is experienced.

Troubleshooting
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, unplug the vacuum cleaner before performing
maintenance/troubleshooting checks.
PROBLEM: Vacuum cleaner won’t run
Cause: Not properly plugged into wall outlet.
Solution: Plug in securely.
Cause: On/off switch not turned on.
Solution: Push on/off switch to on.
Cause: Motor thermostat has tripped.
Solution: Switch off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Leave for one (1) hour before switching the vacuum
cleaner back on.
PROBLEM: Front cover won’t close
Cause: No dust bag fitted or dust bag incorrectly installed.
Solution: Insert the dust bag correctly.
PROBLEM: Suction decrease
Cause: Dust bag full.
Solution: Replace dust bag.
Cause: Blockage in hose, extension tube, tools or accessories.
Solution: Clear blockage.
Cause: Blocked filters.
Solution: Clean or replace filters.
