3.3 Device Name Fields
Device names are used in several console commands. A device name is ex-
pressed in the form ddccuuuu.node.channel.slot.hose. Fields are sepa-
rated by periods. Table 3-14 lists the field definitions.

2 (max) Controller letter (a–zz) assigned by console,
based on the system configuration

4 (max) Unit number of the device (0–9999) determined
by the I/O channel number and the XMI slot
number of the adapter

3 (max) Node number (0–255) of the device on a remote
(CI or DSSI) bus. If the remote bus is a CI, this is
the CI node number of the HSC; if it is a DSSI,
this is the node number of the disk.
channel
1 Channel number (0–1); used only if the adapter
is a KFMSA
slot
2 (max) XMI slot number (1–14) of the adapter
hose
1 Hose number (0–3) that connects to the XMI bus
