When the
CPU
enters the console mode, it prints
on
the console terminal:
A question mark followed by a two-digit halt code (Table 2-1).
The address contained
in
the program counter (PC).
The console prompt symbol,

PANEL
CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
The front panel of the VAX-l

has two switches and four indicator lights. These switches, indicator
lights, and their functions are identified below.
2.2.1 Six-Position Keylock Switch
The
six
positions of keylock switch and the functions of each are shown
in
Table 2-2.

Power
is
applied to main memory, the WCS module and to the TUS8 tape
drives.
LOCAL Power
is
applied to the
CPU
and to memory allowing the
CPU
to respond to
console commands. The remote access port
is
disabled.
LOCAL/DISABLE The
CPU
does not respond to console commands, however the console terminal
functions as a user terminal. The remote access port
is
disabled. The BOOT
position
of
the
AUTO
RESTART
switch
is
ignored.
REMOTE/DISABLE
The console terminal
is
disabled. The remote access port
is
enabled, allowing a
terminal connected to it to be used
as
a user terminal. The
CPU
does not
respond to console commands from this remote terminal.
REMOTE
The remote terminal functions
as
the console terminal. The console terminal
is
disabled unless enabled by the remote terminal.
