WITH the ban on using virgin R22 as a
top-up refrigerant looming, it is crucial,
says Tom Fitzsimmons of Diversitech Ltd,
that all companies owning and using R22
equipment start thinking about what
needs to be done after this date to keep
their equipment in service.
One solution is to replace with new
equipment but unless the equipment is
near the end of its useful service life, or is
very inecient, this is an expensive
option.
Most companies with newer equipment
will probably look at replacing the R22 in
the system with a suitable HFC pure
refrigerant such as R134a, an HFC
blended refrigerant such as R407C or
R404A or an HFC service blend designed
to retrot into existing R22 plant.
A signicant issue with replacing R22 in
systems with a pure or blended HFC is that
R22 systems generally operate with
mineral oil as a lubricant and many HFC
refrigerants require the use of polyolester
oil. Therefore there are possible cross-
contamination issues unless all traces of
the mineral oil can rst be removed.
Diversi-Flush
In response to this problem, DiversiTech
has developed the Diversi-Flush HVAC
internal system ushing and cleaning kit,
available in the UK from Pump House.
The specially formulated Diversi-Flush
solvent breaks down the molecular bond
of the previous refrigeration oil sticking to
the internal surfaces of the system and
ensures that all traces are ushed out
during the cleaning process.
The Diversi-Flush kit has everything in the
box to undertake a complete system clean
out including a 480ml container of Diversi-
Flush solvent, a rellable aluminium
cylinder with pressure relief valve, a
service hose and injector tool with an
adaptor for up to 1
1
8in copper pipe.
The Diversi-Flush system is easy to use
and does not require the use of a pump of
any kind as it uses something that all service
engineers carry in their vehicle anyway as
the propellant to “push” the Diversi-Flush
solvent through the system and that is
oxygen free nitrogen.
Simply put the Diversi-Flush solvent into
the cylinder and pressurise with OFN up
to 50psi and then, using the injector tool
to access the system, release the OFN/
Diversi-Flush mix in to the system in short
bursts until the system is cleaned and no
sign of oil comes out at the other end of
the pipe work.
Once done, ush the system through
with pure OFN at 150psi for about two
minutes to remove any residual traces of
Diversi-Flush from the system and you are
then ready to put the new oil in the
system, vacuum down and recharge with
the new refrigerant.
Of course although Diversi-Flush is ideal
for retrotting refrigerants it can also be
used to clean up after compressor burn
outs and for cleaning
and re-using
existing pipe work
runs during equipment
upgrades etc.
Diversi-Flush has
low toxicity, is residue
free and all
solvents in
Diversi-Flush
are non VOC.
In addition
it has a high
ush solvency
and evaporation
rate and
conforms to
the EPA SNAP
standards and is
non-hazardous and
non-ammable.

Are you tired of risking life and limb (or at least toes
and fingers) handling heavy and awkward concrete
paving slabs to mount outdoor units on?
Well Pump House has the perfect solution in the
form of Diversitech ULTRALITE™ artificial concrete
equipment mounting pads. Weighing in at only 12
kilos per square metre (or about 5 kilos per 2 foot
square slab) UltraLite slabs can easily be handled and
installed by one person much quicker and easier than
laying concrete slabs.
UltraLite pads are made from a core of expanded
polystyrene foam (EPS) bonded on five sides by a
cement impregnated fibre covering with a steel
reinforced insert around the sides to give increased
strength. There are over 90 miles of fibre in each
square metre of coating and the external appearance
is very similar to concrete and has the advantage of
providing excellent insulating properties and anti
vibration abilities.
Available in several sizes UltraLite slabs are
unaected by soil conditions, ultraviolet light (UV)
temperature extremes and all weather conditions and
the textured surface prevents the equipment from
sliding and allows good water drainage.
Pump House distribute the UltraLite equipment pads
along with the full range of Diversitech product range
through all good refrigeration wholesalers so next time
you don’t fancy a hernia try UltraLite from DiversiTech.
