sensors
If control indicator r illuminates
continuously w hile d riving there is a fault in
the system. If the acoustic signal sounds
3 times whe n the re are no obs tacles ne ar
the front or rear bumper, there is a fault in
the system.
Have the cause of the fault remedied by a
workshop.
To ensure the sa fety of other road users
and people in the vicinity and to avoid
da m a ge to th e ve h ic le , r e m e mb er :
z The parking d is tance se nsors sy ste m
should only be considered as a
supplementary function. Normal
precautions should be maintained when
reversing. Check the rear view and use
the mirrors when reversing.
z Do not push, scratch or otherwise
damage the sensors.
Do not use high-pressure jet cleaners to
clean the sensors. Clean only with a soft
sponge and clean water.

Automatic level control 3
Automatic level control makes it possib le to
keep the height of the vehicle constant
when subjected to d ifferent loads in the
rear (e.g . when p assengers are occupying
the rear seats or when towing a caravan /
trailer). This significantly improves driving
conditions.
The vehicle is autom atically raised at the
rear to its previous unloaded level,
increasing spring travel and ground
clearance.
Headlight ra nge adjustment - see page 93.
In the event of malfunctions, do not utilise
the vehicle’s full load capacity. Have the
cause of the fault remedied by a workshop
without delay.
9 Warning
Under certain circumstances, various
reflective surfaces on objects or clothing
as well as external noise sources may
cause the system to fail to detec t
obstacles.
The parking distance sensors may not
recognise sharp objects, thick clothes or
sponge-like materia ls w hich absorb the
frequency.
If the sensors are damaged or covered
with snow, dirt or ice, the parking
distance sensors may not activate.
For these reasons, care must be taken
when reversing, even if the parking
distance sensors are operational. This is
of particular importance when in the
vicinity of p edestrians.
