1. Eight airbags as standard. The Ampera has dual-stage front airbags and
knee airbags, as well as side-impact airbags extending over both seating rows.
Adjustable head restraints help protect against whiplash, whilst the pedal release
system helps protect you in the event of an impact. All the seats feature three-point
seatbelts, with shoulder-belt retractors and front seatbelt pretensioners.
2. Safety measures proactively prevent accidents. The Ampera has safety
features which work to prevent potential problems developing into something
more serious. Features include ABS and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP),
which limits wheel spin or loss of traction. Because the Ampera is so quiet in
Electric Mode, the driver can activate the pedestrian alert system which emits a
chirruping sound to make sure people are aware of the car.
3. The rear view camera. Mounted above the Ampera’s rear number plate,
this camera shows the area behind the car on the centre console display, to help
you reverse safely, using your rear bumper as a point of reference. The screen
shows overlayed graphic lines indicating the reversing path based on the
steering wheel’s angle. Working in conjunction with the front and rear parking
sensors, you quickly appreciate just how easy it is to reverse the car safely.
Especially at night, when it combines with the rear central reversing light, to fully
illuminate your path.
