Engineered to perform, the Ampera features four performance modes for varying
driving conditions and styles:
Normal Mode: The default setting and most efficient driving mode, using the
lithium-ion cells as long as possible, and then engages the on-board generator.
Sport Mode: Automatically reconfigures the response of the accelerator pedal
to provide quicker torque application for dynamic driving situations.
Mountain Mode: Automatically adjusts the system for efficient performance in
extreme gradients, such as very steep alpine inclines, keeping the battery at a
higher state of charge for when supplementary power is required.
Hold Mode: Allows you to drive using the petrol-powered generator to
conserve the energy of the battery, then switch to battery for inner-city driving.
The shift lever resembles a conventional automatic selector (Park, Reverse,
Neutral, Drive), the Ampera also has a ‘Low’ setting which increases the
resistance of the regenerative braking system, maintaining battery charge and
extending the life of the brakes.
The suspension is tuned for responsive driving dynamics. The independent
MacPherson strut-type front suspension improves stability whilst at the rear
there’s a semi-independent set up.
The braking system draws on two different technologies: regenerative braking
and disc brakes. Regenerative braking can handle more than 90% of braking
situations. It harnesses the kinetic energy of the car’s forward motion during
deceleration and converts much of it into electrical energy that can be stored in the
battery. For more extreme braking, the Ampera automatically combines the
regenerative and more powerful disc brakes. Under urgent braking situations,
emergency brake assist is automatically engaged and the system switches
immediately to 100% disc braking.
The electric parking brake is released automatically when pulling away. You
can also turn it on and off with a switch on the centre console.

* = Fuel consumption data, CO

emission data, official electrical consumption data and official electrical range
data are determined according to regulation R (EC) No. 715/2007 (in the version respectively applicable), taking
into consideration the vehicle weight in running order, as specified by the regulation. Additional equipment may
lead to slightly higher results than the stated consumption and CO

figures. Condition A: is the vehicle driving on
Battery supplied electricity only. Condition B: is the vehicle running on Combustion Engine supplied electricity.
Combined: is the vehicle running on combination of both.
** = Typical electrical range means the range achievable in battery mode with a fully charged battery under
typical everyday driving conditions, modest use of engine performance and in average weather conditions
(without use of additional electrical consumers). The range is substantially influenced by the driving style,
payload, number of passengers, terrain, temperature and use of electrical systems e.g. air conditioning.
† = Cumulated range from battery electric and range-extender operation, based on the respective official
combined consumption figures according to regulation R (EC) No.715/2007 (in the version respectively
applicable). The figures for fuel consumption, electrical consumption, range and CO

emissions do not relate to a
specific vehicle and are not part of an offer. They are provided only for the purpose of comparison between
different vehicle variants. Additional equipment may increase the weight of the vehicle when empty, which
may lead to a reduction in top speed and increased acceleration time. The published performance figures
assume a 75 kg driver plus 125 kg load.
