Eco-design directive - what does EUP mean?

The directive 2005/32/EG, of the European Parliament to create a
framework for the agreement of requirements on environmental
friendly design of Energy using Products (EUP) are primarily
required to have a higher efficiency on main supplies and a lower
energy consumption in stand-by-modus.
The design and the construction of a product is very important to
minimise the environmental impact and the aim of the EuP-directive is
to improve the environmental compatibility of Energy using Products
due to general and specified Eco-design requirements.
Global Voltage:
Global voltage for worldwide use.
Voltage gauge method / Minus Delta
V method (-dV):
Method which takes advantage of the fact
that the cell voltage reduces slightly in a
rechargeable battery (-Delta V), as soon as
the cell is completely charged.
Temperature control:
The temperature of the rechargeable battery
is measured whilst it is charging. If this rises
above a defined maximum temperature level
the charger switches itself off.
Trickle charge:
Prevents the natural self-discharging process of
rechargeable cells.
Reverse polarity protection, recognition
of alkaline or defect cells:
Contains criteria for switching off to prevent
charging of primary cells, defect cells or cells
with reverse polarity.
Timer / cut-off:
A timer switches off after a specified time
irrespective of charging status.
Individual charging channels:
Enables you to charge different numbers
and combinations of cells.
USB-in & USB-out function:
Charge your batteries by using the USB-Port of
your Laptop as the power source or charge your
devices directly from USB charger.
