SURFACE PREPARATION
Proper surface preparation is important. All surfaces must
be clean and dry, and free of any dirt, oil, grease, wax,
polish, and any other contaminants. Remove any existing
finishes with sandpaper or stripper. Prepare bare wood for
staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with
#150 grit sandpaper and progress through #180, #220 and
#320 grits. Before using product, remove all sanding dust
and dirt with a vacuum and grease or glue with a clean rag
dampened with mineral spirits.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you
may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO
LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS SUCH AS
BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to
control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA
vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National
