ACTIVE DRIVING
3. To engage reverse gear from neutral, move the shift lever
forward, outward and back to the “R” position.
Always shift the transmission into LOW range when
operating on wet or uneven terrain, when towing or
pushing heavy loads, or when using a plow. Failure to
follow this caution may result in premature V-belt fail-
ure or other damage to the drive system.
Never shift the transmission while your UXV500 is in
motion. Should your vehicle be on a surface that is not
level, engage the parking brake before shifting into an-
other transmission range or into reverse.
DRIVING THE VEHICLE
Before driving your UXV500, take time to familiarize yourself com-
pletely with the operational information described in this Owner’s
Manual. Be prepared to practice operating the controls and driv-
ing the vehicle in a mild environment before driving the vehicle on
more difficult terrain.
Follow this procedure to safely drive your UXV500:
1. Sit in the driver’s seat and fasten the seat belt
2. Start the engine and allow it to warm up
NOTE: Vehicle speed is controlled by the amount of
throttle applied to the engine via the accelerator pedal.
The transmission shifting is automatic.
3. Press down on the brake pedal and then shift the transmis-
sion into gear
4. Release the parking brake
5. Keep both hands on the steering wheel, release the brake pedal
and slowly depress the accelerator pedal to begin driving
6. Drive slowly - practice maneuvering and using the accelerator
and brake pedals to control the vehicle’s speed and stopping
1. After the vehicle stops, shift the transmission into NEUTRAL
2. Engage the parking brake
3. Turn OFF the ignition switch
4. Always try to park your UXV500 on level ground. If you have to
park on a hill, shift the vehicle’s transmission into low gear
5. Release your seat belt and exit the vehicle
PARKING
Parking your UXV500 involves the same guidelines as braking,
as well as the following guidelines:
NOTE: If you have to park your vehicle on a very steep
hill, engage the parking brake, shift the transmission
into the LOW range, and block the downhill side of the
wheels.
