SFlowSamplingUnit
SFlowsamplingunitimplementsonrouter ,switchandothernet-
workdevicesthatneedmonitor .Inthenetworksystemofrouter ,
switchandsoon,generally,implementpacketsamplingfunction
bynetworkprocessororASICchip.
SFlowsamplingmodulemainlysamplethepacketaccordingto
theuserdemands,meanwhilesendthestatisticinformationin
relevantpacketforwardingprocedure.Inthisprocess,theorig-
inalpacketistotallynotaffectedandthissimpleprocessmode
doesn’taffectdeviceoriginalperformanceofprocessingpacket.
Themechanismissimpleandeasyforprocessingandimplemen-
tationonhardwareandsoftware.
Firstly,congureasamplingrateforsamplinginterface,which
canbeaxedvaluesuchassamplingapacketeveryNpack-
ets,ordynamicsamplingratesuchasdecidingthecurrentsam-
plingratedynamicallyaccordingtocurrentportworkingspeed,
systemresourceutilityratioandotherinformation.Whensetting
samplingrate,sFlowworksnormally.Forthepacketthatneed
tobecollected,systemcopiesthepacketoronlycopiesthemax-
imumpacketlengththatsFlowAgentneeds,sendsthecopyof
thepacket,sourceportanddestinationportofthepacket,the
currenttotalpacketcountervalue,samplingpacketcountervalue
andotherinformationtosFlowagentmoduleforprocessing.After
sampling,packetareforwardedaccordingtonormalpacketfor-
wardingworkow.
SFlowAgentUnit
ThemainfunctionofSFlowAgentistoanalyzesamplingpacket
,sendencapsulatedsFlowpacketaccordingtoprotocoltosFlow
collectordevice,meanwhilereadthestatisticinformationonthe
interfaceandsendthemtosFlowcollectordevice.
ThelocationofsFlowagentmodulecanbeinnetworkdeviceitself
oroutsideofdevice.FormostnetworkdevicessupportingsFlow,
sFlowagentunitisintegratedintomanagementmoduleofnet-
workdevice.SFlowagentunitrunsonapartofdevicenetwork
managementsoftwaremodule.Itintegratesinterfacecountinfor-
mationandsamplingpacketinformationintosFlowmanagement
packetwhichissenttosFlowcollector .
SFlowCollector
SFlowCollectoristhenetworkdevicethatsFlowmanage,monitor ,
collectandanalyze.Itisresponsibleforstoringpacketsended
fromeachsFlowAgentonthenetworkandthenanalyzingtogive
devicetrafcandvariousanalysisreportofservice.Meanwhile,
somecollectorsoftwarethathaveMIBfunctioncanconguresFlow
agent.
