VirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)isatechnologythatdividesa
physicalnetworkintoseverallogical(virtual)LocalAreaNetworks
(LANs).EachVLANisidentiedbyaVLANID(VID).
VLANtechnologydividesuserswithinaphysicalLANintodifferent
broadcastdomains(VLANs)accordingtorequirements.Userswith
thesamedemandsaregroupedtothesamebroadcastdomain,
whilethosewithdifferentdemandsareseparated.
EachVLAN,likealogicallyindependentLAN,sharesthesameat-
tributesasthosephysicalLANs.Allbroadcastandunicasttrafcs
withinaVLANarelimitedtotheVLANbutarenotforwardedto
anyotherVLAN.DevicesindifferentVLANsmustrelyonL3rout-
ingswitchingforcommunicationbetweenthem.
VLANprovidesthefollowingadvantages:

variousportsintodifferentVLANs,sothatanytrafcreceivedon
aportbelongstoitscorrespondingVLAN.
