PSX-2 Personal Server Adds Potent Features to iPod
The PSX-2 offers much more than just two-way, on-TV browsing with cover art.
URC has developed an advanced alpha search feature that gets users to their music
fast. Plus, URC’s own “smart shortcuts” vastly simplifies the navigation of content.
Users can find their favorite music with a couple of clicks. There’s even a fully
configurable, plasma-loving TV screensaver that continually displays cover
art, artist and track info.
With PSX-2 your customers can enjoy their iPods in ways
that they never knew were possible. With one button press
from any URC remote they can to do things that could take
dozens of presses on the iPod alone. Operations like: “Play
more from this Artist,” or “Shuffle this Genre” are only one
touch away. They can also add songs to a Jukebox playlist on
the fly—try doing that with just an iPod.
The Magic Behind PSX-2
All of this is possible because URC powers the PSX-2 with a bank of 250 discrete IR
commands—an industry first! The discrete codes, a hallmark of URC, enable custom
installers to automate the operation of an iPod like never before. You can offer your clients
“one touch to music” programming. For example, if your customer is a fan of John Prine
you can create a macro that automatically searches and finds the artist and launches a
selection. The same macro can even select one of the iPod’s 24 EQ settings and activate it—
all automatically and all from one button press.
The PSX-2 includes PSX Link Software for both Macs and PCs. Any new content that is
added to the user’s iTunes library can be synchronized to the iPod in the PSX-2 without
touching it. The PSX-2 is compatible with all iPods (except for first generation). And the
firmware can be updated through the home network for ongoing compatibility.
Use with Any Learning Remote
The PSX-2 can be controlled by any remote that can learn IR codes, so it can be included in
the system you’re installing today. Of course, there are advantages to using URC remote
controls. Advantages like templates and button layouts (optimized for 6-button remotes)
that are built into CCP, URC’s universal programming platform. The software can be
downloaded by authorized dealers from URC’s password-protected, installer-only website
the URC Control Room. When used with URC’s flagship MX-6000 two-way WiFi IR/RF
remote control, the iPod metadata including cover art is displayed on the remote’s huge 4.3"
color LCD—so it’s not even necessary to turn on the TV.
On TV Content Selection and Browsing with Cover Art
Having cover art, artist and title information
on the TV is convenient, fun and natural.
It provides the interface for any
control system to display content
selection choices.
