Section 3: INSTALLATION
3-3
The
unit
e
system configuration must include at least one OCD
card for use with
e
maGEN
.
unit
e
system configuration must
include:
• a second OCD card, if the
e
maGEN
system includes more
than 12
e
maGEN
voice mail ports;
• a second and third OCD cards, if the
e
maGEN
system
includes more than 24
e
maGEN
voice mail ports.
Each OCD card must be equipped with an MIM for each group of
four
e
maGEN
ports to be connected to the card. Since only three
MIMs can be installed on one card, a fourth module on a second
card is required for a more than 12-port voice mail system. For a
system of more than four ports you can, if you choose, take advan-
tage of the Multiple Communication Ports feature and balance sys-
tem load and improve system performance by placing MIMs on
different OCD cards.
3.3.4
e
maGEN
voice mail ports definition
You decide which
unit
e
DNs are to be designated for
e
maGEN
ports. You can designate any legal DN (directory number), up to four
digits in length, as an
e
maGEN
port. All selected ports must be
both connected to and programmed in the
unit
e
system.
3.4 OPTIMAL COMMUNICATION PORT PROVISIONING
3.4.1 General
e
maGEN
has the ability to communicate with the
unit
e
system via
more than one RS232 communication port simultaneously. This fea-
ture allows, for example, SMDR data to be sent separately from
other
e
maGEN
messages, thus distributing system load and pro-
viding faster response time. You can thus assign the SMDR feature
to
e
maGEN
ports which are supported by additional OCD card(s).
If your
e
maGEN
system supports SMDR, SMDR also creates com-
munication traffic which increases system load.
The baud rate for all system elements will be 9600 bps.
