2.4.2 Replacing the Thermal Print Head
To replace the 8500’s thermal print head, complete the following steps:
5 Lift the print head to the upright position.
6 Clean the print head heater element surface using isopropyl alcohol. Verify that all label stock,
media residue, and any other contaminants are cleared from the print head.
Note: The printer in this photo is equipped with the newer style print head, with an extra
attached ribbon cable. See “New Print Head” on page 40.
7 Lower the print head assembly, making sure to securely latch it back into position.
8 Lower the printer’s cover, plug the AC power cord into a power source, and turn on power to
the printer.
9 Reload paper stock.

1 Power off the unit. Unplug the unit’s AC power cable from the power source.
2 Open the printer’s cover by pressing the cover release button.
3 After the cover pops open, lift the cover to the full upright position.
