3. Operating instructions
3.1 Turning on the UT-3000
Do not operate the UT-3000 without the sample inlet filter installed in place. If this
precaution is ignored, the system, especially the GoldTrap, may be damaged by dust
particulate.
The UT-3000 version for use with an Automatic Calibration Unit must not be operated
without the connecting tubing of the Automatic Calibration Unit connected to the UT-
3000 (see chapter 4.2.1).
After turning on the UT-3000 the mercury lamp ignites and heats to operation temperature.
Following indications will appear on the display first:
In case of using an automatic calibration device (which has to be connected and switched on
before, see chapter 4.3.2), there will be an initiation step of the syringe after lamp stabilizing
phase (INIT SYRINGE).
3.2 Main Menu
After the instrument has stabilized, which typically takes 5-15 minutes (depending on the
ambient temperature), following steps will be performed automatically:
Zeroing - Trap Cleaning - Trap Cooling - Zeroing - Trap Cleaning - Trap Cooling -
Zeroing - System Evaluation - Trap Cooling - Sampling ...
The Main Menu can be entered by pressing the ESC-key
during Sampling.
By simply pressing the numbered keys shown on the Main Menu the desired function can be
chosen.
For the Tedlar bag version a different main menu is displayed. In this case some of
the other menus may also differ, see chapter 6.4.
