Probe assemblies to be used for MAINS measurements shall be RATED as appropriate or
MEASUREMENT CATEGORY III 1000V or IV 600V according to IEC 61010-031 and
shall have a voltage RATING of at leat the voltage of the circuit to measured.

CAT III: MEASUREMENT CATEGORY III (CAT III) is applicable to test and measuring circuits
connected to the distribution part of the building’s low-voltage MAINS installation.
CAT IV: MEASUREMENT CATEGORY IV (CAT IV) is applicable to test and measuring circuits
connected at the source of the building’s low-voltage MAINS installation.
