This float switch is rated to directly control motors of up to ½ Horsepower (or 13
Amps) at 120 or 220 Volts AC for non-continuous pump operations, and up to 13
Amps DC for motor loads. Please feel free to contact us for other applications. For
higher horsepower motors, a contactor or relay will be required. This float switch is
made for EMPTYING OPERATIONS / DETECTING HIGH LEVEL. If your application is for
FILLING, this product will not work for you. Contact us and we will help you find a
suitable product.
The molded piggyback plug is unique to grounded 120 Volt
applications. Your pump needs a ground and should be plugged
into a GFCI receptacle. Your pump will plug directly into the Piggyback Float Switch as shown in
Figure 1. The float switch will turn the pump on and off automatically.
It is important that the float is installed properly into the tank. The wire ties in the package will
serve to tether the float switch to the discharge pipe of the pump or another anchor point in
the sump or tank. In the down position the float should be able to hang freely, and should not rest of the floor of
the sump. When water rises, it will invert the SludgeBoss, and allow current to flow to the pump or secondary
device.
For operational purposes, the SludgeBoss does not need to be anchored internal to the tank. It rotates around its
own center, and not a tie point. Reference Figure 2, which shows the SludgeBoss in the states where it is both
above and below water.
The float must be able to move unobstructed. If the float is able to get caught on other cables or obstructions in the
tank, it may result in the pump not activating, or running to failure.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING - ALL APPLICATIONS
NOTICE TO INSTALLER: Instructions must remain with installation.
WARNING: Make sure the pump electrical supply circuit is equipped with fuses or circuit breakers of proper capacity. A separate branch circuit is
recommended, sized according to the National Electrical Code for the current shown on the pump name plate.
WARNING: FOR YOUR PROTECTION ALWAYS DISCONNECT PUMP FROM ITS POWER SOURCE BEFORE HANDLING. Single phase pumps are
supplied with a 3-prong grounded plug to help protect you against the possibility of electrical shock.
WARNING: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES REMOVE THE GROUND PIN. The 3-prong plug must be inserted into a mating 3-prong
grounded receptacle. If the installation does not have such a receptacle, it must be changed to the proper type, wired and grounded in
accordance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes and ordinances, and should have GFCI Protection.
