WOOD ACCLIMATION
Ø Proper acclimation of your new, pre-weathered wood is imperative. Wood is a natural
product and will respond to moisture in the air. When your wood arrives, it is very important
to allow your wood to acclimate to your specific region, with its unique humidity.
Ø Allow wood to acclimate 5-7 days to reduce shrinking, warping and cracking.
RUSTIC WOOD QUALITIES
Ø Customers should plan on ordering 10-20% more wood because wood is, by nature,
imperfect. Prefinished wood will come pre-stained, but wood planks can come with
various imperfections like splits ends. It is common that wood be trimmed on site. Rustic
wood will have knots, knots are not considered defects.
Ø On all wood species, natural variations in the color, texture, and density of the wood are
common and always acceptable. Wood stains are tannin reactive and react with tannin
in wood to create weathered looks, with natural highs and lows and beautiful color
variation. Rustic, knotty wood will have knots and are not considered defects. Location,
quantity, and size of knots are unpredictable.
Ø Knots smaller than a nickel will be filled. Larger knots will not be filled and are not
considered defects.
