Operating instructions:
Lay the object to be copied en a firm flat surface, eg an adjustable ironing board or a photo table.
Please note: Warning! The projector must be set up near a mains socket otherwise an extension
cable must be used and must be laid safely on the floor. The cable must be carefully arranged so
that it is not inadvertently pulled out of the socket nor cause anyone to trip over it in the darkness.
The opening of the episcope must be placed precisely over the area to be copied. When all
preparations have been completed, switch on the episcope. Finally make the room dark and let the
fun begin!
Using the angle attachment:
The machine can also be used to project pictures at an angle of 90°. This enables you to draw
pictures on the ceiling or view vertical images. You need to fit the supplied projector attachment
onto the lens. Hold the angle attachment and rotate the adjustable lens on the episcope until the
picture is in focus. Make sure that the two parts are not hot. Follow the previously described
procedures for focusing and setting up. You will need a little more patience, because the process of
focusing will change the angle of the attachment and you will need to readjust it. Using the 90°
angle attachment is likely to cause some distortion of the image, particularly around the edges.
Please note that when using additional lenses and reversing prisms (in the former case, the angle
attachment), the amount of light and the quality will deteriorate.
When you project images, eg onto the ceiling, you will see pictures and letters upside down,
therefore the wrong way round. Since these projections are mainly intended for viewing stars, you
will have the same view as you would get with an astronomical telescope.
Projection options:
This episcope has many uses. lt is made so that a group of people can look together at pictures, eg
holiday photos; also for projecting graphics, illustrations, books or educational material for viewing
or drawing, projecting star maps horizontally or vertically to see the constellations an the ceiling.
This machine can also be used to project three-dimensional objects, such as material, boards,
flowers, coins, stamps, rock samples and similar, in order to mark details on the wall or to study
them in greater magnification.
Please note:
Never use flammable materials near this machine. Never put down flammable objects next to the
projector (petrol, flammable materials or liquids such as brush cleaner and water containers). We
recommend the use of a 60W or spiral energy saving bulb 20W light source for this machine.
Projection table
Magnification Approximate distance (measure from projection surface to centre of lens)
2x 61 cm
2x 61 cm
4x 110 cm
6x 157 cm
8x 205 cm
10x 252 cm
12x 300 cm
Please note:
This machine is not intended for constant use nor for use as a light source, because it becomes very hot.
Focusing:
The size of the picture to be drawn or projected can be adjusted to the drawing area or to the size of drawing
required. Move the episcope forwards or backwards (and don´t forget the original).
To adjust the height, move the drawing paper or the machine up or down (eg adjust the ironing board up or
down or affix the paper on the door higher or lower). Then adjust the focus by pushing in or pulling out the
lens. The episcope magnifies 2x to 10x. Please note that the angle is altered if the machine is not straight and
it will not be possible to achieve a good overall focus. We recommend therefore that you use the machine in a
horizontal position. The optimum distances for magnification depend on the size of the original, the quality and
the degree of magnification desired. The darkness of the room and the strength of the light source are also
important considerations. We recommend that you experiment to find the best magnification for your
purposes.
