Hello. In addition to RC modeler, I am computer professional and have seen many
comments like yours saying that Flymentor not work ... I have a Flymentor and have
been run without problems in XP and Vista, and I suppose that it will do well in
Windows 7 using the Vista driver (i will inform you when i try it).
In general, follow these steps:
1 .- Never connect Flymentor cable to a PC for the first time without loading its drivers
and software. If you do, Windows will not assign a driver or make a mistake and it will
cost to fix it.
2 .- Before you do anything, make sure that the user of Windows you are using is
administrator of the machine, if not, switch to another user who is. In Windows Vista
and 7, it is advisable to disconnect the user account control (see Microsoft website).
3 .- Unrar the driver and control program (Helibal) coming in a file ".rar" in a directory
on the hard drive of your PC (eg c:\Flymentor). You can use the versions that comes on
Flymentor disk or download the latest version from the KDS Web.
4 .- Connect the Flymentor cable and the PC and connect Flymentor to power. The
Flymentor must be powered for the communication cable detection works properly. If
all goes well, system will reply "new device detected" and asks you where to take the
drivers. Choose "Have Disk" and locate the driver where you unzipped (in our example
c:\Flymentor\driver\WindosXP or c:\Flymentor\driver\Vista as what Windows we
have). If all goes well, the system loads the driver and answer "The new device is
available and OK."
5 .- If at step 4, system said: "There was an error loading the device drivers" (which
always happens if you have not respect point 1) you must go to "device manager" and
remove a device that appears with a exclamation point (perhaps identified as "unknown
device"), disconnect everything and start again.
6 .- Open Helibal program in the directory where you unzipped. It is no desktop icons or
menus, you have to run it by searching with the file manager. To have it easy the next
time around, assign a shortcut to the desktop. The program will detect that Flymentor
are connected and allow you to read the current settings or load a new one. If Helibal
doesn´t detects Flymentor, be sure Flymentor is powered, unplug the cable and plug it
again.
NOTE: If Helibal not detect Flymentor, you can not touch anything, not even editing
configuration files you have on your PC, which is a fat stick. I would suggest to people
who bought Flymentor that to do a bit of pressure on the issue, write to KDS to
incorporate a "outline" mode to allow the review of configuration files without having
to connect to Flymentor.
