package consistency.
• Apply stain in small concrete sections approximately
4’ by 4’. Work quickly and feather edges.
• Apply with a high quality pump sprayer with a ne spray
setting using a circular motion.
Optional: After applying with pump sprayer, for a more
uniform look, immediately follow with a 3/8" nap roller
lightly saturated with stain.
Allow rst coat to dry before deciding if a second coat is
necessary. An additional coat will provide a darker and more
uniform color.
Pump Spray Application:
First Coat (Base Color): A light tone color is ideal for a base
color. Use a high quality pump sprayer with a conical tip. Fill
the pump sprayer with rst color and fully pressurize.
Tip: Adjust the pump sprayer nozzle tip until you reach a
ne mist setting. Practice spraying on a piece of cardboard
or newspaper. Apply Semi-Transparent Decorative Concrete
Stain using a random or gure eight motion. Refrain from
covering the concrete surface with an even, steady stream
as this could lead to a monochromatic look rather than a
variegated look. Hold the spray tip approximately 10 inches
above the concrete surface. If you need to stop during
application step, use natural break points such as borders,
walls or expansion joints. Important: To prevent drips from
getting on the surface, use a rag to catch any drips when
stopping the sprayer. Allow base color to dry to the touch
(1 – 2 hours) before applying a second coat (accent color).
Do not walk on wet stain. Save any unused product for
future touch-ups.
Second Coat (Accent Color): A dark tone color is ideal for
an accent color. Flush pump sprayer and wand out with fresh
water. Add accent color to clean pump sprayer and fully
pressurize. Apply accent color in a light random pattern.
Be careful not to cover rst color completely.
Clear Topcoat (Optional): For added protection, use a
product such as BEHR PREMIUM Wet-Look Sealer No. 985
for a high-gloss nish or a product such as BEHR PREMIUM
Low-Lustre Sealer No. 986 for a low-gloss nish. Allow stain
at least 24 hours to dry before topcoating. NOTE: Do not use
Wet-Look Sealer or Low-Lustre Sealer as a topcoat around
pool decks or other areas subject to consistent moisture.
Dry Time: @ 77°F & 50% RH
To Touch: 1 hour
To Recoat: 4 hours
Full Cure: 4 weeks
Longer dry time may be required in cooler temperatures and
higher humidity.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, chalk, oil, grease,
wax, polish, mold and mildew stains, loose and peeling
paint, rust, and all other foreign substances.
New and Uncoated Concrete & Masonry: Allow new
surfaces to cure 30 days. Clean and etch surface using a
product such as a muriatic acid etcher (read and follow all
manufacturers label directions) to achieve a textured prole
similar to 150-grit sandpaper. Wipe your ngers over the
clean, dry surface to check for dust or powder. Ensure there
is no residue on your ngers that may have been left from
the etcher. If residue is found, rinse the surface to remove
residue. Allow the surface to dry completely. Sprinkle a few
drops of water onto the surface. If water is quickly absorbed
and the surface feels like 150-grit sandpaper, the surface is
ready. If not, re-etch. For areas subject to automotive trac,
apply a product such as BEHR PREMIUM® Concrete and
Masonry Bonding Primer No. 880 to increase adhesion of
topcoat to the surface.
Previously Painted Surface: Use a paint stripper to
remove any previous coatings or sealers.
WARNING! IIf you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you
may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD
DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE,
ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD
ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator
to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA
vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, nd out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National
Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to
