B. GAPS, CLEARANCES, AND CORNERS
• Leave3/16"gapatallbuttjoints,aroundalldoorsandwindowframes,
andatjointsinthesoffitsforalllapandsquareedgesidingproducts.
Caulkallgaps.See Fig 2.
• Gapthesidingatallcorners3/16"andcaulk. See Fig 3.
• Sidingmusthaveaminimum2"separationfromconcreteorbeappro-
priatelyflashed.Sidingmustbe6"fromsoilorlandscapingmaterial.
• Wherethesidingmeetstheroof,itmustbespacedaminimumof2"
fromtheplaneoftheroofandbeproperlyflashed.Thecutedgemust
beprimedandpainted.
C. CAULKING
• Usebestqualityflexible,paintable,mildew-resistantexteriorgrade
caulkingmaterial.
• Caulkaroundallopeningssuchaswindowanddoorframesand
atbuttjoints.Caulkalloverdrivennails.See Fig 1.
• Caulkallhorizontaltrimmaterial.
D. PAINTING
• Touchupdamagedareaswithapremiumalkydoil-basedprimerora
premiumacryliclatexprimer.
• Sidingmustbefinish-paintedwithin90daysafterinstallation.
Ifsidingisexposedforalongerperiod,reprimethesidingwith
apremiumalkydoil-basedprimerorapremiumacryliclatexprimer.
• Sidingmustbecleananddrywhenpaintisapplied.
• Useonlypremiumalkydoil-basedpaintorpremiumacryliclatexpaint
containinganappropriateamountofmildewcideforlocalmoisture
conditions.Forbestperformance,100%acryliclatexpaintsor100%
acrylicsolidbodystainsarerecommended.
• Followpaintmanufacturer’srecommendationsforengineered
woodsiding.
• Aminimumof4drymils,includingfactoryprimer,isrequired.

• Dripedgesandgroovesmustbewellcovered.

Installation Errors That Void the Warranty
• Donotapplysidingtoarainsoakedstructure.

Do not apply siding that is wet. Wet siding can shrink after appli-
cation and shrinkage is not covered by the TruWood warranty.
• Wetblowninsulationisnotallowed.
• Donotapplystuccoorcompositestuccoproductsoverthesiding.
• Donotapplythesidingtofloatingstructuresorbuildings
overwater.
• Staplesarenotanacceptablefasteningdevice.
• Donotapplytowallsystemswithoutconventionalframing.
• Donotbevelcutthesidingedgesatbuttjoints.
• Donotpaintinwetorcoldconditions.
• Donotuselatexpaintonsmoothproducts.
• Donotuseshakeandshinglepaints,lowqualityflatoiloralkyd
paints,vinylacetate(PVA),vinylacrylicorvinylacetate-acrylicco-
polymerpaints.Thesecoatingsdonotadequatelyprotectthesiding.
