these decorative garden stakes. Each stake has a metal plate

you can engrave with the name of a corresponding vegetable,

ower, or herb to create a permanent weatherproof marker.

On the 1 x 3 x 3' red oak board, mark 12" lengths and cut

using a circular saw or miter saw.

STEP 2: mark angles Mark each 12" board for the angled cuts. Measure down 4" from the top of the 12" board and mark that location. From that mark, trace a line down toward the center of the bottom of the board. Repeat this on the other half of the board so the board is marked to taper off to a point. Repeat this entire step for each 12" garden stake you want to make. STEP 3: make angled cuts Using a circular or miter saw, cut along the lines marked in the previous steps to give each stake a point.

STEP 7: smooth metal edges Smooth the edges of each metal square using a rotary tool with a sanding attachment. Clamp the metal squares to your workbench for a safe way to keep the piece in place while you smooth the edges. STEP 8: drill Clamp each metal square to a wooden board. Drill a hole in all four corners of each square. STEP 9: engrave Using a rotary tool with a grinding tip, engrave the names of your desired plants into the metal plaques.

STEP 12: nail plates Nail the metal plaques to the top of the wooden stakes with 1/2" wire brads and a tack hammer. STEP 13: insert into ground You're now ready to use your garden stakes by simply inserting them into the ground next to the plant they're intended to represent.
