Besuretohavethedamperinafullyopenpositionwhenyoustartafireoropenthestove’s
door,toreducesmokebillowing(andyourtentandclothesfromsmellinglikesmoke).Open
thestovedoorslowlyeachtimeyouopenit.
CAUTION:Themoreyouusethedampertoreduceairflow,usethedoordrafttoreduceair
flowand/orusesoftormoistwood,themorecreosotebuildupyouwillexperienceinthestove
pipeandsparkarrestor.Besuretocheckyourstovepipeandthesparkarrestorregularlyfor
creosote,andcleanasnecessary.DRYhardwoodsburnthemostefficientlyandprovidethe
mostheat.
OPERATION
Firebox:
Althoughyourstovedoesnotcomewithfirebrick,itisrecommendedthatyouconsider
installingandusingfirebricktoprolongthelifeofyourstove.Weofferafirebrickkitasan
accessory,aswellasanalternativeBottomSaversteelinsertthatwillprolongthelifeofthe
stove’sfirebox,aswell.
Tip:DONOTstorethestovewithashesleftinthefirebox,orprematurerustanddegradation
ofthefireboxwilloccur.
SolidFuel:
Yourstoveisdesignedtoburnwoodonly–noothercombustibles(trashorothercombustible
materials)shouldbeused.
Differentwoodtypesproducedifferentenergyyields.Besurethatyourwoodisasdryas
possible‐manyproblemsrelatedtooperatingawoodstovearecausedbythefactthatthe
woodistoodamp.
Someproblemsfromusingdampwoodinclude:IgnitionorStart‐upproblems;Creosote
buildupandchimneyfires;Lowenergy(i.e.heat)yield;Incompletecombustionofthewood
Beforeyourfirstfire:
Besuretocureyourstoveandpipe(seeINSTALLATIONsection)
Asstatedpreviously,firebrickortheBottomSaversteelfireboxinsertshouldbeused,to
prolongthelifeofthefirebox.
NEVERusegasoline,gasoline‐typelanternfuel,kerosene,charcoallighterfluidorsimilarliquids
tostartor‘freshenup’afireinthisheater.Keepallsuchliquidswellawayfromtheheater
whileinuse.Additionally,neverapplyfire‐startertohotembersinthestove.Donotuse
