You can replace the rechargeable batteries with non-rechargeable
alkaline batteries. But, if you do, do not use the AC adapter. You
must put rechargeable batteries back in before you use the AC
adapter again. Follow these steps to use non-rechargeable batteries:
1. Remove the battery cover by pressing in on the front edge
and lifting.
2. Remove the old batteries.
3. Install five, size AA batteries. Align the positive and negative
ends according to the + and – symbols in the battery
compartment.
4. Put the battery cover back on.

1. Remove the plastic tab from the battery compartment.
2. Plug the AC adapter power cord into the jack on the left side
of the Compact/C.
3. Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet.
4. Leave the AC adapter plugged in for 14 hours to completely
charge the batteries. You can make calls while the AC
adapter is plugged in.
Use batteries for power or plug in the AC adapter. Be sure that you
use the AC adapter that comes with the Compact/C—it supplies
the right amount of electrical power and properly charges the
batteries.
Plugging in the Compact/C
Be sure you are using rechargeable, NiCad batteries whenever you
plug in the AC adapter. The batteries that come with the
Compact/C are size AA NiCad rechargeable batteries. You can also
use non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, but never use alkaline
batteries with the AC adapter.
