Intended Use This 15 ton capacity Ultra-Tow XTP Series Auto-Locking Dual-Purpose Pintle Hitch features a singlepiece, austempered ductile iron with an upper steel lock that is designed for a flat rigid mount. No adapter is needed. The hitch can be used with a ball coupler or a tow ring with a 2” to 3” I.D. drawbar eye ring with a 1-1/4” to 1-5/8” diameter cross section. ⚠WARNING WORK AREA SAFETY Inspect the work area before each use. Keep work area clean, dry, free of clutter, and well-lit. Cluttered, wet, or dark work areas can result in injury. Using the product in confined work areas may put you dangerously close to cutting tools and rotating parts. Keep children and bystanders away from the work area while operating the tool. Do not allow children to handle the product.
Specific Operation Warnings ⚠WARNING To prevent serious injury or property damage, read and understand the owner’s manual. Do not exceed lowest rated load capacity in hitch system. Maintain adequate vertical down (tongue) load to have control of the trailer (generally 10%), but do not exceed the specified rated capacities. Other steps and inspections are also required. Consult OSHA, D.O.T. regulations, and the American Trucking Association for complete coupling and uncoupling procedures.
Connecting to Hitch Ring Make sure all bystanders are in sight before backing up the vehicle to hook-up. Hitching Up 1. Before operating, inspect for proper operation, worn, damaged, or missing parts, and secure the mounting. Correct as required before use. 2. Unlock by removing the safety pin. 3. Back up the vehicle until the pintle cup captures the hitch ring. 4. Lower the hitch ring into place. 5. To lock, insert the safety pin. 6.
Connecting to Ball Coupler Make sure all bystanders are in sight before backing up the vehicle to hook-up. Hitching Up 1. Before operating, inspect for proper operation, worn, damaged, or missing parts, and secure the mounting. Correct as required before use 2. Back up the vehicle until the hitch ball is right under the ball hitch, then lower into place. 3. To lock, insert the safety pin into the ball coupler. 4. Slide the safety chain onto chain hooks after the safety chain is hooked to the vehicle.
Maintenance Interval Maintenance Point The following should be performed every 10,000 miles or 6 months: 1. Inspect for proper operation. 2. Inspect, in particular, the coupling area. Replace when the wear exceeds 1/8'' from the original surface profile. 3. Inspect for worn, damaged, and missing parts. Replace as required. 4. Always use a safety clip. 5. Check the ball’s torque specification after the first 200 miles of towing and every 400 miles after that.
