: Real and Linear gain
Andor has successfully converted the relationship between EM Gain and the EM clock voltage setting into a linear one
through a detailed analysis of the complex EM voltage dependence. The actual EM Gain can therefore be selected
directly from a linear scale displayed in software.
In effect one can select the best gain to overcome noise and maximize dynamic range. Also, although EM Gain is
temperature dependent, Andor’s linear and real gain calibration extends to any EMCCD cooling temperature. Selecting
x300 EM Gain at -50°C, or at -100°C gives the same x300 actual gain.
