The 836A is designed with com ponent s that require litt le or no periodic m aint enance except for t he
rout ine cleaning of t he Fans and front panels of t he Trays.
The am ount and t im e int erval between cleanings depends on the condit ions wit hin the Transm it t er
room . While t he elect ronics have been designed t o function even if covered wit h dust . A heavy
buildup of dust , dirt or insect s will hinder the effect iveness of the cooling of the com ponents and
lead t o a t herm al shutdown or prem ature failure of the affect ed Tray.
When the front panels becom e dust covered, t he t op covers should be rem oved and any
accum ulat ed foreign m aterial rem oved. A vacuum cleaner ut ilizing a sm all wand type at t achm ent is
an excellent way t o suct ion out t he dirt. Alcohol and ot her cleaning agents should not be used
unless you are certain that t he solvent s will not dam age com ponent s or t he silk-screened m arkings
on the Trays and boards. Water based cleaners can be used, but do not sat urat e t he
com ponent s. The fans and heat sinks should be cleaned of all dust or dirt t o perm it t he free flow of
air for cooling purposes.
I t is recom m ended that the operat ing param et ers of the Translat or be recorded from t he m eters on
the Exciter and the Am plifier Trays at least once a m onth. I t is suggest ed that the dat a be
retained in a rugged folder or envelope for t he life of the equipm ent. A sam ple form at for a Log
Sheet is included in this sect ion. Phot ocopies of t he Log Sheet should be m ade for continued data
ent ries.
