Out put RF Se ct ion
The RF Out put of t he UHF Excit er is split four ways in (A5) the 4 Way Power Split t er Assem bly
( ZFSC-4- 1SMA). The out put s of the Splitt er feed t he four (A6, A7, A8 & A9) UHF Am plifier Trays
which am plify t he RF signals t o approxim at ely 600 Wat t s each. A Forward Power Sam ple from the
4 Way Com biner Board inside t he Tray is connect ed to the Dual Peak Det ect or Board which
provides a peak det ect ed forward sam ple to the Am plifier Cont rol Board t hat supplies the sam ple to
the front panel m et er of t he UHF Am plifier Tray. Before exit ing each UHF Am plifier Tray t he RF is
fed through a Circulat or for prot ection of the Tray from high VSWR conditions. The Reject Port of
the Circulat or provides a Rej ect Sam ple t o the 4 Way Com biner Board, which supplies the Reflect ed
Sam ple t o the Dual Peak Det ect or Board. The peak det ect ed Reflected Sam ple connects t o t he
Am plifier Cont rol Board that provides t he sam ple to the front panel m et er of t he Tray. The out put s
of the t w o ( A6 & A7) UHF Am plifier Trays are t hen com bined in ( A10) a UHF Tee Assem bly ( 1227-
1017 L.B., 1227- 1018 M.B. or 1227- 1019 H.B.) t hat provides approxim at ely 1100 Wat t s Peak of
Sync Out put. The outputs of the ot her two (A8 & A9) UHF Am plifier Trays are t hen com bined in
( A11) a UHF Tee Assem bly ( 1227- 1017 L.B., 1227- 1018 M.B. or 1227- 1019 H.B.) t hat provides
approxim at ely 1100 Wat t s Peak of Sync Output . The two 1100 Watt s Out puts t hen com bined in
( A12) a Hybrid Com biner t hat provides approxim at ely 2200 Watt s Peak of Sync Output . The
com bined output is connected to ( A13) a Bandpass Filt er, then either through ( A14) an (Opt ional)
One Sect ion or Two Sect ion Trap Filt er or directly t o ( A16) t he Output Coupler Assem bly to t he
output of the Syst em . The Bandpass Filt er and Trap Filter are t uned to provide high out of band
reject ion of unwant ed products. The (A16) 7/ 8" Coupler Assem bly provides a Forward Pow er
Sam ple and a Reflect ed Power Sam ple. The Forward and Reflected Sam ples are cabled to the
Visual/ Aural Met ering Board locat ed in the UHF Excit er. The Forw ard and Reflect ed Sam ples are
processed to provide peak det ected Visual and an Aural Power Output Sam ples t o t he Transm itt er
Cont rol Board. The Transm it t er Cont rol Boards connect t he Visual, Aural and Reflected Power
Out put Sam ples t o t he front panel Met er for m onit oring.
Cont rol a nd St a t us
The Met er and the LED indicat ors locat ed on t he front panel of the UHF Excit er provide t he Cont rol
and the Stat us I ndicat ions of t he Translator. The swit ches and LED indicat ors are part of the
Transm it t er Cont rol Board (1265-1311) which is m ounted so t hat the swit ches and t he LEDs are
operated or viewed from the front Panel of the UHF Excit er. Swit ch ( S1) is an Operat e/ St andby
Switch t hat controls the output of t he Translat or by providing t he Enables, when in Operat e,
needed t o t urn on t he Swit ching Power Supplies in t he four UHF Am plifier Trays. I n Operat e t he
Green LED ( DS2) is On and when in St andby t he Am ber LED ( DS1) is On. I f t he Translat or does
not swit ch t o Operate, when S1 is swit ched to Operate, check t hat a Dum m y Jum per Plug, with a
Jum per bet w een Pins 23 & 24 is connected t o J11 on t he rear of the UHF Excit er Tray or w it h a
j um per bet ween Pins 21 & 22 on Jack J9 on (A17) t he (Opt ional) A/ V I nput & Rem ot e I nt erface
Panel. This Jum per provides t he I nterlock needed for t he Translat or t o operat e. I f t he I nterlock is
present the Green LED ( DS5), locat ed on the Transm it t er Cont rol Board, should be lit .
Switch ( S2) is an Aut om at ic/ Manual Swit ch that controls the operation of the Translat or by t he
presence of the I nput Signal. When t he swit ch is in Aut om atic the Green LED ( DS3) is lit and if the
I nput Signal to the Translator is lost , t he Translat or will aut om atically swit ch to Standby. When
the I nput Signal ret urns the Translator will aut om atically swit ch back to Operat e. I n Manual,
Am ber LED ( DS4) lit , the Operat ion of the Translat or is cont rolled by the front panel swit ches.
During Norm al operat ion of the Translat or Switch S2 should be in t he Auto posit ion. The front
panel of the UHF Excit er also has LEDs t hat indicat e a Video Fault (Loss), Red LED ( DS9) and a
VSWR Cut back, Am ber LED ( DS7) .
