Operat ion Pr ocedure

SYSTEM CHECK OUT AND OPERATI ON PROCEDURE
Connect t he out put at the "N" Type connect or J4 of the 20 Wat t VHF Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray
to a suitable load or t he Antenna for your Syst em . Connect the Low Band VHF Channel RF I nput
Signal t o Jack J1 locat ed on t he rear panel of t he Receiver Tray.
Switch the AC Main Circuit Breaker on. Sw it ch On the On/ Off Power Swit ches located on t he
Receiver Tray and the VHF Upconvert er/ Am plifier Tray and observe that the switches light ,
indicating AC is present to that Tray. Flip t he Operat e/ St andby Mode Swit ch located on t he VHF
Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray and confirm that t he LED indicat ors will also switch. Switch the
Translat or to St andby.
The Translat or Cont rol ( Autom atic/ Manual) Switch S3, located on t he front panel of the VHF
Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray, switches t he Translator bet ween t he Aut om atic and Manual m ode of
operat ion. I n Aut om at ic, t he Translat or will revert t o Standby if the input RF signal is lost . During
Test ing of the Translat or, Switch S3 t o Manual, t his will keep t he Translator from going t o Standby
if t he I nput RF is rem oved. Norm al Operation is wit h the swit ch in the Manual Mode.
Slide t he Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray out and rem ove t he t op cover. Check t hat swit ches S1 (ALC)
and S2 ( AGC), located on ( A10) the ALC/ AGC Board (1067-1116) are bot h in t he Aut om at ic
position. Confirm that S1 on ( A11) t he Linearity Correct or Board (1161-1116) is Enabled. Swit ch
the Translator to Operat e. The Am plifier St atus LED (DS4) will light indicat ing norm al current draw
by ( A17- A2) t he High Band VHF Am plifier Board ( 1174-1101) . The Green Therm al I nterlock LED
( DS3) w ill light indicating t hat the tem perature wit hin t he Tray is Norm al. Swit ch the Front Panel
Met er Select or Switch t o t he Power Supply Volt age posit ion and confirm a reading of + 24 VDC, the
voltage produced by (A3) the Switching Power Supply Assem bly.
Turn the Front Panel Met er Select or Switch to the % Visual Power Position and verify a reading,
norm ally 100% , which is the sam e value as writt en on the Test Dat a Sheet for t he Translator.
Turn the Meter Select or Switch t o t he % Aural Power Posit ion and verify a reading which is the
sam e value as w ritt en on the Test Dat a Sheet for t he Translat or. The Aural/ Visual Rat io is
typically set t o 10 dB at t he fact ory. Turn the swit ch to the % Reflect ed Pow er Position and
verify the Test Dat a Sheet Reflect ed Power value, < 10% . The ALC Reference Voltage Position
should read 2 Volts. The AGC Detect or Volt age Position should read .3 Volts.
I f the Translator has com plet ed the above System Check Out Procedure, replace t he lids of the
Trays and slide them back int o place. I f a problem occurred in a Tray, refer t o t he Det ailed
Alignm ent Procedure in that Tray Sect ion of t he Manual for m ore inform ation.
Check t hat the RF I nput Signal is connect ed to t he Receiver Tray. Check t hat t he RF output of
the 20 Wat t VHF High Band Upconvert er/ Am plifier Tray is connect ed to t he ant enna for your
System . Check that the Autom at ic/ Manual Swit ch locat ed on t he front panel of the
Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray is switched t o the Manual posit ion.
You are now ready for t he norm al operat ion of the Translat or. Set -up of t he linearity correctors
are described in the System Alignm ent Procedure which follows.
