UNPACKI NG
Please inspect all m aterial t horoughly upon arrival. Axcera cert ifies t hat upon leaving our facility
the equipm ent was undam aged and in proper working order. The shipping cont ainer should be
inspect ed for obvious dam age t hat is indicative of rough handling.
Rem ove the Cabinet Assem bly or if shipped separat ely, the Receiver Tray, t he VHF
Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray, t he Wire Harness and the I nst allation Mat erial Kit from t he shipping
cont ainers and inspect for dam age. Check for dent s, scrat ches or a broken swit ch, m eter or
connect or. Rem ove the t op covers from the Trays and again inspect for shipping dam age. Extract
all packing m at erial from inside and around the Trays. Check for loose hardware and connect ors,
ret ight en if needed. Any claim s against in-t ransit dam age should be direct ed to the Carrier.
SI TE CONSI DERATI ONS
There are special considerat ions which m ust be m ade before inst alling the 117B and this sect ion
will help you plan ahead.
The AC line requirem ent s is an im portant consideration in Site planning. Each Translat or requires a
10 Am p feed.
Anot her im portant Site considerat ion is tem perature cont rol. The 117B is rated for operat ion in an
am bient t em perature range of 0° to 45° C. Over tem perature problem s are far m ore likely than
under t em perature. Over t em perature can cause heat relat ed problem s such as t herm al runaway
or com ponent failure. The Tray cont ains a Therm al I nt erlock Circuit that will shut down the
Translat or unt il the t em perature drops t o an acceptable range.
The Translat or requires a cooling syst em t hat is adequat e for t he heat created by t he power
dissipat ion of t he Translat or. This problem m ay not surface for m any m ont hs if the inst allation is
com pleted during cool weat her, but m ay suddenly appear during the heat of sum m er days.
I n m any cases, a sim ple heat exhaust syst em is adequate. A t herm ost atically cont rolled fan t o
exhaust the heat t o t he out side works very well if a few guidelines are followed:
1. Check t hat the fan is large enough. At least 200 CFM per Translat or.
2. Place the fan high enough on t he wall or in t he ceiling where t he heat is locat ed.
3. Provide an air int ake for cool air. This intake should be on the other side of the room and
low on the wall t o allow air t o flow over t he Translator Cabinet. The int ake should also be
large enough t o accom m odate the capacity of t he exhaust fan.
I n very hot clim ates, air condit ioning m ay be required, and cooling capacit y m ust be considered.
The size of t he Transm it t er Room and the num ber of Transm itters and/ or Translat ors and ot her
equipm ent will determ ine what size syst em is required. An HVAC Technician should be consult ed.
Wit h both exhaust and air condit ioning syst em s it is bett er to over est im at e the operat ing capacit y
than to under est im at e. This provides for a safe operat ing m argin.
Though it is less likely to cause problem s, extrem e cold should also be ant icipat ed. Ext rem ely low
tem perat ures m ay cause condensat ion inside t he Tray due t o a large different ial between am bient
and int ernal t em peratures. The equipm ent it self m ay provide enough heat for norm al operat ion, if
the room is sm all enough and properly weat herproofed. However, it is bet t er t o inst all a sm all
heat er than to take a chance. The heat er will also provide warm t h for Technical Personnel if
m aintenance or repairs are necessary during t he wint er m onths.
