Use the I F Out put of the Modulator or t he Receiver Tray t o drive t he VHF Upconvert er/ Am plifier
Tray.
The Upconvert er/ Am plifier Tray includes adj ust m ents for aut om atic level cont rol (ALC) of the drive
level, linearity ( am plitude pre - dist ortion) predist ort ion and t he RF am plifier st ages. The
Upconverter/ Am plifier Tray also includes adj ust m ent s for t he local oscillator m ult iplier chain and the
local oscillat or cent er frequency.
Switch the Front Panel m ounted On/ Off Upconvert er/ Am plifier Circuit Breaker to t he On posit ion.
Switch the Auto/ Manual Swit ch to the Manual posit ion. Switch t he Operate/ Standby Switch t o
the St andby position.
( A14) CHANNEL OSCI LLATOR ASSEMBLY ( 1145-1202)
CONTAI NS: (A14- A1) CHANNEL OSCI LLATOR BOARD (1145-1201).
1. Connect t he m a in output of the Channel Oscillator ( J1) t o a spect rum analyzer, t uned to
the cryst al frequency. Switch the Operat e/ St andby Switch to Operate, and peak t he
tuning capacitors C6 and C18 for m axim um out put. Tune L2 and L4 for m axim um out put.
The out put level should be approxim ately + 5 dBm .
2. I f a spect rum analyzer is not available, connect a DVM t o TP1 on t he x4 Multiplier Board.
Tune capacitors C6 and C18 for m axim um volt age, then t une L2 and L4 also for m axim um
voltage out put at TP1.
3. Connect t he sam ple output of t he channel oscillator (J2) t o a suit able counter and tune
C11, coarse adj ust m ent, and C9, fine adjust m ent, to t he cryst al frequency. DO NOT
RE- PEAK C6, C18, L2 or L4, because it m ay change t he out put frequency.
NOTE: While adj ust ing C9 and C11 to t he cryst al frequency t he peak volt age m onitored at TP1 of
the x4 Mult iplier Board should not decrease. I f a decrease does occur a problem m ay exist
wit h the cryst al.
4. Reconnect the m ain out put ( J1) of the Channel Oscillator to t he input ( J1) of the x4
Mult iplier.
( A15) x4 MULTI PLI ER BOARD ( 1174- 1112)
While m onitoring wit h a DC voltm eter, m axim ize each t est point voltage by tuning the broadband
m ult ipliers in sequence.
1. Monitor TP1 wit h a DVM and Tune C4 for Maxim um .
Monitor TP2 wit h a DVM and Tune C6 and C10 for Maxim um .
Monitor TP3 wit h a DVM and Tune C12 then re - peak C4, C6 and C10 for Maxim um .
2. Connect a Spect rum Analyzer, t uned to 4 t im es the cryst al frequency, to the x4 Multiplier
output Jack ( J2) . Monitor the out put and peak the t uning capacit ors for m axim um out put .
The out put of the x4 Mult iplier connect s t o ( A16- A1) the Filt er/ Mixer Board.
( A16- A1) FI LTER/ MI XER BOARD ( 1150- 1102)
1. Monitor J4 t he L.O. Output of t he Board wit h a Spect rum Analyzer and adj ust C12 and C18
for m axim um out put ( + 14 dBm ) at the L.O. frequency.
2. Adj ust C13 and C17 for best frequency response for the L.O. frequency.
