Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Ubiquiti Networks® UniFi® Switch. This Quick Start Guide is designed to guide you through installation and also includes warranty terms. Network Topology Requirements • A DHCP-enabled network for the UniFi Switch to obtain an IP address (connected devices will also obtain IP addresses after deployment) • A UniFi Cloud Key or management station running the UniFi Controller v5.2.
Hardware Overview Front Panel Ports and Port LEDs SFP+ 1-12 Speed/Link/Act SFP+ 1-12 RJ45 13-16 RJ45 13-16 Speed/Link/Act Port Description SFP+ 1-12 Hot-swappable SFP+ ports support 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps connections. RJ45 13-16 RJ45 ports support 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps Ethernet connections.
Front Panel System LED and Button System Reset System LED State Status White Factory defaults, waiting for integration. Flashing White Initializing. Alternating White/Blue Device is busy; do not use or unplug it. This usually indicates that a process such as a firmware upgrade is taking place. Blue Successfully integrated into a network and working properly. This is used to locate a device. Flashing Blue When you click Locate in the UniFi Controller software, the System LED will flash blue.
Back Panel Console Port Console Port Console Description RJ45 serial console port for Command Line Interface (CLI) management. Use an RJ45‑to-DB9, serial console cable, also known as a rollover cable, to connect the Console port to your computer.
Back Panel Power DC Input Power DC Input The 25VDC input can connect a redundant or stand‑alone DC power source (not included) with minimum power: 56W, 25 to 16V, and 2.5 mm DC power inline connector. Note: You can use the redundant DC power source as a hot spare; if the internal AC/DC power supply no longer provides power, the UniFi Switch will switch to the DC power source without interrupting its operation. Power Connect the included Power Cord to the Power port.
Hardware Installation The UniFi Switch can be placed on a horizontal surface, mounted on a wall, or mounted in a rack. WARNING: FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROPER VENTILATION MAY CAUSE FIRE HAZARD. KEEP AT LEAST 20 MM OF CLEARANCE NEXT TO THE VENTILATION HOLES FOR ADEQUATE AIRFLOW. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the switch to rain or moisture. Mounting in a Rack (Optional) 1. Attach the Rack-Mount Brackets to the UniFi Switch using the eight Bracket Screws. 2.
Connecting Power 1. Connect the Power Cord to the Power port of the UniFi Switch. 2. Connect the other end of the Power Cord to a power outlet.

Connect the fiber optic cable to the fiber module. Then connect the other end of the cable to another fiber device. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 to connect additional SFP+ ports. Note: Use compatible fiber SFP+ modules with the appropriate fiber optic cabling.
Connecting RJ45 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer or host system to any RJ45 port of the UniFi Switch. 2. Connect Ethernet cables from the RJ45 ports of your devices to the other RJ45 ports of the UniFi Switch.
Software Installation Download and install the latest version of the UniFi Controller software at downloads.ubnt.com/unifi and follow the on‑screen instructions. Note: If you already have UniFi Controller v5.3.x or higher installed, skip to the section, Adopting the UniFi Switch. After you have installed the software and run the UniFi Installation Wizard, a login screen will appear for the UniFi Controller management interface. Enter the admin name and password that you created and click Login.
Adopting the UniFi Switch 1. From the UniFi Controller dashboard, click Devices in the left menu bar. 2. On the Devices screen, locate the UniFi Switch in the list of devices under the Name/MAC Address column. To adopt the UniFi Switch, click Adopt. 3. The System LED on the UniFi Switch will turn blue to confirm that it has been successfully adopted.
