Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Ubiquiti Networks® EdgeRouter™. This Quick Start Guide is designed to guide you through installation and also includes warranty terms. Package Contents EdgeRouter ER-6P Wall Mount Screws (Qty. 2) Power Cord Wall Mount Anchors (Qty. 2) Power Adapter (24V, 2.5A) Ground Screw Cable Clip TERMS OF USE: All Ethernet cabling runs must use CAT5 (or above).
Installation Requirements • Drill with a 6 mm drill bit (for wall-mounting) • Phillips screwdriver • For indoor applications, use Category 5 (or above) UTP cabling approved for indoor use. • For outdoor applications, shielded Category 5 (or above) cabling should be used for all wired Ethernet connections and should be grounded through the AC ground of the power supply.
Hardware Overview Front Panel Ports Console RJ45 (eth0-eth4) SFP (eth5) USB Interface Console Description RJ45 serial console port for Command Line Interface (CLI) management. Use an RJ45‑to-DB9, serial console cable, also known as a rollover cable, to connect the Console port to your computer. (If your computer does not have a DB9 port, then you will also need a DB9 adapter.
Front Panel Button Reset Button Description There are two methods to reset the EdgeRouter to factory defaults: Reset • Runtime reset (recommended) The EdgeRouter should be running after bootup is complete. Press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds until the LED for port eth5 starts flashing and then becomes solidly lit. After a few seconds, the LED will turn off, and the EdgeRouter will automatically reboot. • Power-on reset Disconnect the Power Cord from the Power Adapter.

Back Panel Ventilation Holes Power Grounding Point Note: There are additional ventilation holes on the sides of the EdgeRouter. Hardware Installation WARNING: FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROPER VENTILATION MAY CAUSE FIRE HAZARD. KEEP AT LEAST 20 MM OF CLEARANCE NEXT TO THE VENTILATION HOLES FOR ADEQUATE AIRFLOW. Wall Mounting To mount the EdgeRouter on a wall, you will need a drill, a 6 mm drill bit, and a Phillips screwdriver. 1. Use a 6 mm drill bit to drill two holes 125 mm apart. 2.
3. Position the EdgeRouter with the Ethernet ports facing down. Place the wall-mount slots of the EdgeRouter over the screw heads on the wall. Then slide the EdgeRouter down to lock it into place. Grounding the EdgeRouter (Recommended) The EdgeRouter is grounded through the Power Adapter; however, you can add optional ESD grounding for enhanced ESD protection. 1. Attach the Ground Screw to secure a ground wire (not included) to the Grounding Point. 2.
Connecting Power 1. Connect the Power Adapter to the Power port. 2. Connect the Power Cord to the Power Adapter. 3. Connect the other end of the Power Cord to a power outlet.
Using SFP Ports To use an SFP port: 100 Tx1 0M 550 bp nm s SM /Rx /SC 131 0nm20K M DD M 1. Remove the protective plug covering the SFP port. 2. Plug a fiber SFP module into the SFP port. 3. Connect a fiber optic cable to the fiber SFP module. Then connect the other end of the cable to another fiber device. For information about compatible fiber SFP modules, visit: ubnt.
Accessing the EdgeOS Configuration Interface The EdgeOS® configuration interface can be accessed via DHCP or static IP address assignment. By default, eth1 is set up as a DHCP client, while eth0 is assigned a static IP address of 192.168.1.1. To configure the EdgeRouter, proceed to the appropriate section: DHCP or “Static IP Address”. DHCP 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from eth1 on the EdgeRouter to a LAN segment that has an existing DHCP server. 2.
4. The login screen will appear. Enter ubnt in the Username and Password fields. Read the Ubiquiti License Agreement, and check the box next to I agree to the terms of this License Agreement to accept it. Click Login. The EdgeOS Configuration Interface will appear, allowing you to customize your settings as needed. For more information, refer to the EdgeOS User Guide, which is available at www.ubnt.com/download/edgemax For more information on PoE configuration, refer to “Configuring PoE Settings”.
2. Configure the Ethernet adapter on your host system with a static IP address on the 192.168.1.x subnet. 3. Launch your web browser. Type https://192.168.1.1 in the address field. Press enter (PC) or return (Mac). 4. The login screen will appear. Enter ubnt in the Username and Password fields. Read the Ubiquiti License Agreement, and check the box next to I agree to the terms of this License Agreement to accept it. Click Login.
Configuring PoE Settings The PoE setting for ports eth0-eth4 is set to Off by default. WARNING: Before activating PoE, ensure that the connected device supports passive PoE and the supplied voltage. 1. In the Dashboard tab, click Actions > PoE of the Ethernet port you want to configure. 2. The Interface Configuration window will appear. Select the appropriate PoE setting, and click Save.
3. The Ethernet port’s PoE LED will confirm the PoE setting. PoE (eth0-eth4) For detailed instructions on configuring other features, please refer to the EdgeOS User Guide.
