5. Closehandshut-offvalvetovacuumpump.
Watchcompoundgaugeforseveralminutes.
Ifreadingrises,thereisaleakinthesystem,
gotostep6.Ifnoleakisindicated,stop
vacuumpump.Systemisnowreadyfor
charging.
6. Ifaleakisindicated,stopvacuumpumpand
introduceasmallchargeofrefrigerantinto
systembycrackingvalveonbottomof
chargingcylinderuntilsystemispressurized
to40or50lbspsig.
7. Leaktestlow-side.Closecompoundgauge.
Runcompressorforafewminutesandleak
testhigh-side.Whenleakisfound,recapture
refrigerantusingEPAapprovedrecovery
systemRepairandgobacktostep1.
CAUTION
Check the serial plate for the correct
refrigerant type. It is extremely important to
verify the type of refrigerant in the system
before starting any sealed system repairs.
After charging the system with liquid be
certain to wait at least 5 minutes before
starting the compressor to give the refrigerant
a chance to disperse throughout the system.
Otherwise the compressor could be damaged
by attempting to pump excessive quantities
of liquid.
Preparing The Charging Cylinder:
1. Makecertainthathandshut-offvalveto
vacuumpumpisclosed.
2. Closehigh-sidemanifoldgaugevalve.
3. Setchargingcylinderscaletopressure
indicatedoncylinderpressuregauge.
4. Observerefrigerantlevelinsightglass.
Subtractamounttobechargedintosystem
andnoteshutoffpoint.
5. Openchargingcylindervalveslowlyand
allowproperchargetoentersystem.
6. Assoonasrefrigerantinsightglasshas
gonedowntopredeterminedlevel,close
chargingcylindervalve.
7. Allowsystemtositforveminutes.
8. Turnonrefrigeratorcompressor.Run
compressorforafewminutesandmonitor
systempressures.
9. Whensatisedthattheunitisoperating
correctly,clampthehigh-sideprocesstube
withthepinch-offtoolwhiletheunitisstill
running.
10. Slowlyopenthehigh-sidemanifoldgauge
valvetoallowthecompressortoremoveany
refrigeranttrappedinthehigh-sidehoseand
theprocesstting.
11. Closebothofthemanifoldgaugevalves.If
thehigh-sidegaugereadingrises,thepinch-
offmustbecorrectedbeforeproceeding.
12. Removethehigh-sideprocesstubeadaptor
andsoldertheprocesstubeclosed.
13. Clampthelow-sideprocesstubewiththe
pinch-offtoolwhiletheunitisrunning.
Removethelow-sideprocesstubeadaptor
andsoldertheprocesstubeclosed.
14. Checktheprocesstubesforrefrigerantleaks.
WARNING
Disconnect the charging cylinder heater at
this time to prevent the cylinder pressure from
exceeding its maximum limits.
Final Leak Test
1. WiththerefrigeratorturnedOFFleaktestall
low-sidesystemcomponents.
2. TurntheunitONandrununtilthecondenser
iswarm.Leaktestthehigh-sidesystem
components.
