Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 5 ABOUT FLOW® Flow® is assessment software that permits polling in any environment. Compatible with most eInstruction and Turning Technologies hardware, Flow can be used with Microsoft PowerPoint®, Microsoft Word®, Apache OpenOffice™ and many other software applications. Aside from using Flow with clickers, participants can respond to questions with smart phones, tablets and computers via the vPad application.

Downloading and Installing Flow for Mac The Flow software is accessible via http://www.einstruction.eu/flowsoftware. Prerequisites Please verify that your computer meets the Technical Requirements before downloading Flow. 1 Click Download. 2 Double-click the ZIP file. 3 Double-click the PKG file. The Flow Installer opens.

Hardware The Turning Technologies Device Manager acts as a liaison between the hardware and the Flow software. Device Manager installs with Flow and runs in the background of the computer. Connecting the Receiver If using multiple receivers, each receiver must be set to a different channel. Clickers should be set to the same channel number as the corresponding receiver.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 9 Using Pulse RF and ResponseCard NXT Clickers Pulse RF and ResponseCard NXT clickers operate on radio frequency (RF). Prerequisites Flow must be open on the presenter computer. TIP It is recommended to check the Pulse or ResponseCard NXT option within the Flow software. Follow the steps below to select this option. 1 Open Flow. 2 Click the Options icon and select Settings.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux License packs can be downloaded or distributed on flash drives. The flash drive must be inserted into a USB port on the computer running the Flow software whenever Flow is open to allow the software to read the vPad license information. IMPORTANT For more information about vPad, including the Technical Requirements, please refer to vPad . turningtechnologies.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 11 NAVIGATING FLOW This chapter covers the following topics: The Main Window Flow Menu The Main Window The Main Window displays several screens. When Flow is opened, the participant count, receiver and channel number, and vPad session number are displayed. Flow Main Window (PC) Flow Main Window (Mac/Linux) The Main Window can be minimized by clicking the minimize icon. Additionally, Engage question, Manage participants, Session results and the Options icon are also available.

From this window, a participant list can be created or imported to track participant data. For more information, see Participants. The use of a participant list allows for detailed reporting on each participant from a session. Flow for PC, Mac and Linux Registering Participants Anonymously Anonymous registration allows participants to quickly log in without entering their user information. NOTE The default setting is Allow anonymous participants if a participant list is not loaded prior to the start of a session. 1 Open Flow. 2 Participants may register by pressing any voting button on their device.

Prerequisites A CSV or XLSX file where the columns equal: Column A = Student ID Column B = First Name Column C = Last Name Column D = Device ID Headers and Columns C and D are optional The file should contain the necessary information for your class. 1 Open Flow. 2 Click Manage participants. 3 Click the Load roster icon and select Load roster from file.

Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 19 Using Assisted Registry Assisted registry provides a fast and simple way to register participants from a list for smaller audiences (ideally less than 50 participants). The steps below can be performed before each presentation to ensure each participant has registered. IMPORTANT Assisted registry is not compatible with vPad. Prerequisites A participant list that contains names or Student IDs (Device IDs are optional) is required.

Click Engage question from the Main Window and select a question type. Optionally, set the question parameters.

Use letters for answers - If checked, letters will be used as answer bullets. If unchecked, numbers will be displayed as answer bullets.

Value - The point value of the correct answer can be set by entering a value in the box provided. Answer - Enter the numeric answer text in the box provided. In the +- box, enter the margin of error. Max Time - Set the time allotted for participants to answer the question.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 23 4 Click Generate question to create a Flow question. 5 Paste or drag and drop the question into an application, such as Word. An icon is placed next to the Flow question. The question is copied to the clipboard and can be pasted into a number of formats. The compatible formats include: Microsoft Office®, OpenOffice™, Adobe Flash®, SCORM®, HTML, SMART Notebook™, ActivInspire®, a WorkSpace blank page and in a Windows file folder.

Prerequisites Saved session questions are required. 1 From the Flow Main Window, click Session results. The Session results window is displayed. 2 Click the Export results icon and select Export Flow lesson.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 25 Lesson Builder Lesson Builder installs with Flow as a supplemental application that allows you to create, modify and adapt a Flow lesson that you can display in self-paced mode or presentation mode. When Flow and Lesson Builder install, a shortcut to Lesson Builder will be made available on the Desktop (PC)/in the Finder (Mac)/in Dash Home (Linux).
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 5 Click Add question to insert another question. 6 Click Remove question to remove an unwanted question. 7 Repeat steps 2 - 5 as necessary. 8 Click the Save or Save as icon to save the new lesson. Printing a Lesson Prerequisites A lesson with at least one question. See Adding a Question to create a lesson in the Lesson Builder. 1 Open the Lesson Builder.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 27 Publishing Homework via the Lesson Builder This feature is available for: l Premium licenses users l Trial users and users with Demonstration Premium licenses (one (1) complimentary Homework license) 1 Open the Lesson Builder. 2 Manually create a lesson or load a lesson file. 3 After the lesson is created or loaded, click the Publish homework icon. The Homework window opens. 4 Enter your name in the Instructor name field. 5 Enter your class name in the Class name field.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 28 Downloading and Viewing Completed Homework Follow the steps below when you are ready to download and view homework results. 1 Open Flow. 2 Click the Options icon and select Load homework. 3 Enter the Homework ID for the assignment in the ID field and the password in the Password field. 4 Click Download. 5 The results are imported into Flow. 6 Click Session results to view the lesson. turningtechnologies.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 29 POLLING The following topics are discussed in this chapter: Time Response Grid Question Statistics Asking Questions Time The timer is used to keep track of how much time has elapsed between presenting the question and when all participants have responded to the question. If all participants have responded before the timer reaches 0, polling will automatically close.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 30 Response Grid A response grid indicates which participants have responded to the question. The response grid is available when polling is open. Viewing the Response Grid Participants are identified by Student ID or first name or last name. 1 Open Flow. 2 Register participants. 3 Poll a question. 4 While polling is opened, click Response grid. 5 The response grid is displayed.

Optionally, enter the question parameters. 5 Click the arrow to begin the question . 6 Click End question after all participants have answered. 1 The Question statistics chart is displayed. 2 Repeat steps 3 - 7 as necessary. Asking Questions from the Flow Question Editor NOTE Follow the steps below to disable the control-click function in Word. Click File and select Options.

NOTE The polling question will automatically begin if Automatically start question is selected within the Flow PowerPoint add-in. 6 The percentage of submitted answers appears in the Flow Main Window. 7 Click End Question after all participants have answered.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux RESULTS This chapter covers: View Results Chart Options Edit Questions Save Session Export Results View Results Session results can be viewed by session, question or participant. TIP Reports can be displayed on MobiView. Tap the Reports icon on the MobiView Home Screen to view results. Viewing Results by Session The results by session view provides participant data such as name, Student ID, score and grade. Prerequisites A session with participant data.

In this window, you can reorder the question list, edit and delete questions, and view screenshots of each question. Prerequisites A session with participant data. 1 After the session, click Session results. 2 The Session results window is displayed. 3 Select the Questions tab.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 35 Chart Options The Question statistics window displays the collected answers in a pie, bar, participant, word cloud, or response over time chart. NOTE For Multiple Answer questions, a bar chart shows the response given while a histogram chart shows the distribution. Pie chart (Answer distribution) A pie chart displays the results of participant responses.

Instructors can view the comment(s) after the question has ended by hovering over the bubble icon in Session results > Participants. 3 Tap/click the Submit icon when finished.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux Responding to a Constructed Response Question This feature is available for: l Premium licenses users l Trial users and users with expired trial licenses (two (2) complimentary licenses) IMPORTANT Constructed Response questions are not compatible on smartphones. 1 When polling is opened, the question and answer choices are displayed. Constructed Response Question 2 Use the tools to answer the question. NOTE Participants can tap the Comments icon to add a comment.
Flow for PC, Mac and Linux 9 6 After the assignment is complete, tap/click Save homework. The following prompt is displayed. 7 Tap/click OK. A confirmation is displayed stating that the homework has been successfully saved. Once the homework is sent, it cannot be resubmitted. 8 Tap/click OK. You are logged out of vPad. NOTE If the vPad app is closed prior to completing the assignment, a warning appears the next time the app is opened prompting you to reload the assignment.
