Problem Cause Remedy
Engine fails to start  Choke not in CHOKE position.
2. Spark plug wire disconnected.
3. Fuel tank empty or stale fuel.
 Engine not primed.
5. Faulty spark plug.
 Key not in ignition on engine.
7. Extension cord not connected (when
using electric start button, on models so
equipped).
 Move choke to CHOKE position.
2. Connect wire to spark plug.
3. Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
 Prime engine as instructed in the Operation
section.
5. Clean, adjust gap, or replace.
 Insert key fully into the switch.
7. Connect one end of the extension cord to the
electric starter outlet and the other end to a

Engine running erratically/
inconsistent RPM (hunting
or surging)
 Engine running on CHOKE.
2. Stale fuel.
3. Water or dirt in fuel system.
 Carburetor out of adjustment.
5. Engine over-governed.
 Move choke lever to RUN position.
2. Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
3. Drain fuel tank. Refill with fresh fuel.
 Contact an authorized Service Center.

Engine overheats  Carburetor not adjusted properly.  Contact an authorized Service Center.
Excessive vibration  Loose parts or damaged auger.  Stop engine immediately and disconnect spark
plug wire. Tighten all bolts and nuts. If vibration
continues, have unit serviced by an authorized
Service Center.
Loss of power  Spark plug wire loose.
2. Gas cap vent hole plugged.
 Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
2. Remove ice and snow from gas cap. Be certain
vent hole is clear.
Unit fails to propel itself  Drive control cable in need of adjustment.
2. Drive belt loose or damaged.
3. Friction wheel worn.
 Adjust drive control cable. Refer to Maintenance
& Adjustments section.
2. Contact an authorized Service Center.
3. Contact an authorized Service Center.
Unit fails to discharge snow  Chute assembly clogged.
2. Foreign object lodged in auger.
3. Auger control cable in need of
adjustment.
 Auger belt loose or damaged.
5. Shear pin(s) sheared.
 Stop engine immediately and disconnect spark
plug wire. Clean chute assembly and inside of
auger housing with clean-out tool or a stick.
2. Stop engine immediately and disconnect spark
plug wire. Remove object from auger with clean-
out tool or a stick.
3. Refer to Auger Control Test.
 Refer to Maintenance & Adjustments section.
5. Replace with new shear pin(s).
Chute fails to easily rotate
EFHSFFT
 Chute assembled incorrectly.  Disassemble chute control and reassemble as
directed in the Assembly section.
