Events
The IRIS units can be setup to react on certain events. An event occurs when, for example,
an input that changes value or a timer that reaches its limit. It is possible to add actions to the
events to make the IRIS-unit interact with its environment.
I/O event
An I/O event occurs when a bit masks matches the current status of the inputs, the outputs
and the fl ags. A fl ag is a variable that is used store earlier events. The bit mask consists of one
or more digital values.
Timer event
A timer event occurs a specifi c time after an event. The time can be between 100 millisecond
and 4000 hours. There are four timers available.
Counter event
A counter event occurs a counter reaches a specifi c number. A counter can have values up to
over four milliards. There are four counters available.
Message event
A message event occurs a message that is received via the radio or via the serial interface,
matches a predefi ned text string. The IRIS-unit can store twenty different predefi ned text
strings. Each text can be up to thirty characters long and can include wildcards. A wildcard
is a question mark (?) that replaces one character or an asterisk (*) that replaces one or more
characters.
Actions
The IRIS-unit interacts with its environment through different kinds of actions. It could be for
example a changed output, an increased counter or a sent message.
Output and fl ag action
An output and fl ag action changes the values on its own outputs and fl ags or sends a com-
mand to another unit in the system to change its outputs and fl ags. It is possible to set the
value of the outputs or fl ags high or low or to toggle the current value.
Timer action
A timer action effects one of the timers. It is possible to start, stop, restart and set timers.
Counter action
A counter action effects one of the counters. It is possible to increase or decrease the counter
with a specifi c value, restart the counter or change the limit.
Message action
A message action is when the IRIS-unit sends predefi ned messages to a unit in the system.
The messages are either normal messages or alarms, and may include various parameters.
The parameters can be for example the identifi cation number, the alias, status of inputs, out-
put and fl ags, current value of timers and counters and the received text that trigged the event
that generated the message action.
