Connect the unit
Communication check
The fi rst thing to do, after connecting the units, is to check the communication. Make sure
that both units are connected properly. The IRIS Starter kit units come pre-programmed with
a test setup. The checkpoints below are based on the functions in the Test program.
For more information on how the Test program works see the IRIS Starter kit – Test program-
document.
Check the radio communication:
• Make sure the units are at least a couple of decimetres apart.
• Press button number 1 on one of the units; this will make Input 1 go high.
• The diode that represents Output 1 on the other unit should now be lit.
Check the serial interface:
• Make sure that the serial interface on the PC is set to:
• 9600 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit and no parity
• Start a text terminal program, for example HyperTerminal, on the PC.
• Press button number 2 on one of the units; this will make Input 2 go high.
• The other unit should now present the identifi cation number and the alias of the
sending unit on the serial interface.
• Press button numbers 4 and 5 on one of the units; this will make Inputs 4 and 5 goes high.
• The unit should now present its alias and its I/O status on the serial interface.
• Texts sent to the unit, using the terminal program, would be relayed to the other unit and
presented on the serial interface. Except “SET OUTPUT 2 HIGH”, that would make
Output number 2 go high, and texts that starts with “ALARM”, that would make Output
number 3 go high.
• All texts must end with carriage return and line feed (press enter).
